The assumption here is You've inherited Your 'status' as a Muslim from family.

I once met a fellow from Israel that said he was an Atheist too, but he was in the habit of calling himself Jewish.

He was indignant that that 'status' was inherited as well.

I said, "Why don't You just call yourself a Hebrew National?"

"After all, being Jewish implies religious conviction, but You don't have any... So, go with saying You're Hebrew!"

He liked that, because it was truer to 'who-he-was.'

I'm going to assume, You've got family that would be indignant that You profess to be an Atheist, as well... Right?

This is the oldest story on the planet... You'll just have to pick-n-chose whom You want to know about Your convictions.

My own eldest son is an Atheist, and I respect that he should have his own life that doesn't include me, and visa-versa.
