Topic: How long before I can jog again (sprained ankle)?

I realize all situations are different, but I sprained my ankle moderately this weekend, and I love to stay fit. (I sprained it while jogging, and wound up limping home about a mile). I first fear I may have hurt it even more by doing that. Second, are there any leg exercises out there that I could do while temporarily disabled?

I always "walk it off" when I sprain my ankle and I find that I can walk on it the next day with barely any pain. But I'm no doctor so that might actually be a bad idea for the long term. It's hard to say how long. Could be a couple days to over a month, but since you walked on it for half a mile I think you'll be able to walk on it without pain sooner than if you didn't walk it off.

As for exercises in the interim, it's tricky because almost any leg exercise will use your ankle. Definitely don't do anything with weights, e.g. free weight squats would be the WORST idea right now. Even leg curls might be painful even though they don't use your ankle. Bike might be your best bet - low resistance/low gear should make it as painless as possible. Just don't force yourself to do any exercises that are painful. "No pain no gain" doesn't apply when you have an injury.

you shouldn't be online asking the above. you should have sense enough to talk to a medical professional when dealing with these types of issues first.
then go online to seek alternatives/helps that the professional didn't mention.

you don't ask this type of stuff on a dating site if you're serious about your health/condition. you go to a fitness sight that deals with sports medicine and rehabilitation. you can view proper videos on youtube that will show you how, and what to do after getting proper 411 from the fitness/sports medicine sites.
