I refuse to settle for less than what I want in a mate. Does this make me a *****? Probably. I just want someone to be happy with. I don't care about money or prestige. But I won't take someone just so that I don't have to be alone. I have come to enjoy and LIKE my company thank you.

have had great long terms with un-obvious choices that surprised "other people". Who cares! "Settling" would have to with principles and ideals. Once thought I was jazzed to be dating a (magazine standard) super model type. 2 weeks in she started spouting racist/antisemitic GARBAGE......GAME OVER!!!

Why is settling such a dirty word? When you choose what to wear for the day, do you settle upon a particular outfit? When you decide to buy a new car, so you decide between a couple before you settle upon one? When you go out to eat and are torn between the steak or the shrimp, don't you settle upon one of them? Does settling make any of those choices wrong or lesser than?

I think you are doing the right thing. There's a reason I'm fussy about who I choose to date. Will never lower my standards ever again. I soon learnt from that.

I was being sarcastic ... my stupid sense of humour I can't even remember the last date I went on...and i've had one relationship (which lasted 6 months) in the past 3 years...so I can clearly entertain myself

Hmm.. I have settled once before.. . now that I am settled.. in being single.. I will settle for nothing less.. .. but as I settle in my chair.. and set my sights on this.. question of settling v\s being single.. a single thought comes to mind.. why would you settle... for nothing less.. unless you are happy with the thought of settling... for less than what you deserve... that single thought a loan... unsettleds me.. just my single thought...
