I Ask because I have listened to people speak of jewish as a religion, like baptist, or protestant or catholic,, in which case I wouldnt expect there to be an asthetic aspect to being jewish.
However, I have also listened to people speak of Jewish almost as a race, in which case asthetics would be a factor. I have been to many churches where Jewish(in church it is shortened to jews, but Im never sure if thats considered an offense) are not preached about with much fondness, and it makes me wonder if that contributes to a general disapproval amongst different religions of jewish people and if so how and if that would manifest into discrimination by those church members,,,,when they encounter jewish people. But how would they know if they had encountered a Jewish person? Wasnt Sammy Davis Jr a Jewish person? What is it that makes one Jewish, are you born into it or do you choose it? |

The nationality which brought forth Judaism (Jewish religion) was originally called the Hebrew nation. There were various divisions of Judaism as the years progressed. One does not need to be born into the Hebrew nation to become a member of the Jewish faith, but you do need to qualify by going through various levels of religious studies. Sammy Davis Jr. was a member of the Jewish faith; however he was not a Hebrew or of Hebraic descent.
Many have come to call the Hebrew nation, the Jewish nation, but one can be born in Israel (where the Hebrews originated) and not be of the Jewish faith. Conversely you can become a proselyte or convert to Judaism and live in or outside the nation of Israel. There are people in Africa who belong to or are descendants of the original 12 tribes of Israel which migrated all over the world. There are a great many Jews in various other nations, like Spain, U.S., England, Portugal, Russia, Germany and various other countries. They scattered all over the world when they were divided from a 12-tribe kingdom to two kingdoms, one a 2-tribe kingdom and one a 10-tribe kingdom, many, many centuries ago. Hope this helped some. |

When you wear one of those hats and stomp on wine classes wrapped in napkins?
Really, at what point does a person's personal faith determine whether they are in asset to your life or not? I think all walks of life are a little silly, including my own ;) |

Put on your yarmulke Here comes Chanukah So much funukah To celebrate Chanukah Chanukah is the festival of lights Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights When you feel like the only kid in town without a Christmas tree Here's a list of people who are Jewish just like you and me David Lee Roth lights the menorah So do James Caan, Kirk Douglas, and the late Dinah Shore-ah Guess who eats together at the Carnegie Deli Bowser from Sha Na Na and Arthur Fonzerelli Paul Newman's half Jewish, Goldie Hawn's half too Put them together, what a fine lookin' Jew You don't need "Deck The Halls" or "Jingle Bell Rock" 'Cause you can spin a dreidel with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock- both Jewish Put on your yarmulke It's time for Chanukah The owner of the Seattle Supersonicahs Celebrates Chanukah O.J. Simpson, not a Jew But guess who is? Hall of famer Rod Carew- he converted We got Ann Landers and her sister Dear Abby Harrison Ford's a quarter Jewish- not too shabby Some people think that Ebenezer Scrooge is Well he's not, but guess who is All three Stooges So many Jews are in showbiz Tom Cruise isn't, but I heard his agent is Tell your friend Veronica It's time to celebrate Chanukah I hope I get a harmonicah Oh this lovely, lovely Chanukah So drink your gin and tonicah And smoke your marijuanikah If you really, really wannakah Have a happy, happy, happy, happy Chanukah Happy Chanukah |
