I've encountered many guys from India here having English aliases or names.. If you asked them if they were Asian they says "I'm American" yeah right even its very obvious they don't look like one... They aren't proud of who they were..Why the hell they pretended to be somebody else.. And whats funny about it they claimed to work in a tech companies as IT or system admin or business men.. YEAH RIGHT... TELL THAT TO THE MARINES...

as far as American, it is a nationality and not a race, there are many races of American ,,In America, any race can be in IT

In America people are also free to choose the name they want for their children or , once grown, for themselves,,

In America there are many races of people who are either born American or become American citizens

'American' doesn't really have a look for that reason

there are many Asians(race) who are also americans,

Im not sure how it is perceived elsewhere, but nationality and race are two different things here,,,,

it is sad if people try to claim something that isn't a part of them, but then again people can be more than one thing and have the option to claim any one of those things when identifying themselves,,,

I was asking to their demographic group...
Every time I asked if they were Asian too.. They says American..
I don't know if they understand the question or something..

I'm sure there's loads of them who don't even put up their own picture. There are just too many that claim to be American and British, with pictures of a white man, but their English is very weird, and no way these are real Americans or British. I'm not talking spelling mistakes.

They all use the same messages, almost verbatim. I Googled a few of these the other day, just to see if I'd find a site for Indians with messages they can use on dating sites. Like a "copy & paste for free" site.
You'll find a gazillion pages with the exact same messages. Lot of spamsites come up as well.

I do think there are sites like that, where these men can copy & paste those messages. Someone had to come up with it and then spread the word. But you probably got to know your way around Indian websites and/or speak the lingo in order to find them.

What they're after? I guess a green-card, money, attention, webcam sex?

I misunderstood, ,we are talking about fake profles,

I thought we were talking about people and their choice of label.

Nationality vs Race

I am american but also african american (aka black)

My ex is british but also white, he has friends that are british but also black,,,

so race and nationality dont exclude each other,, I thought there was a suggestion that one oculdnt be an American and be Indian(racially)

It seems to me that it is odd that so many pretend to be something that they are not. With close to a billion Indians, wouldn't there be many women their age with which to have cyber sex?

Maybe a few could "fess up" here and tell why they do this. If they ever met in person, the jig would be up anyway. So why not just have cybersex with each other?

some may have been telling you the truth. there are quite a few Indian nationals here in the states on HB1 visas working in IT. IDK how many of them plan to actually become citizens though.flowerforyou

This whole "fill in the blank / American" thing drives me friggin' nuts!
Why does race have to be involved in our conversations at all? If someone is a citizen of America, then they are Americans! If you are a citizen of Canada, you are Canadian! If you are a citizen of Egypt, you are Egyptian! Etc. Etc. Etc.

Some of us use the something/American because we are proud of our heritage.
I am an American citizen of Mexican origin. My looks very obviously proclaim my heritage.
I just say, I'm me. I don't try to put labels on myself except to correct others. Like people who call me Spanish.

I don't know everything there is to know about people from India, or several other countries.
I do have a couple of friends who are from India and in some parts they still believe that you can only associate with your own social class.
There are also many rules on dating and interaction among people in general which those of us in the western world might have trouble understanding.

And businessmen too, you can find many of them behind cash registers operating convenient stores or motels too... some even sell cell phone covers at shopping malls.
