Oh I don't know....
-Ridden a camel in the Northern States? (no lame obvious gross retorts please) -Gotten drunk with a group of hundreds by the tracks, for the sole purpose of "BA-ing" the Amtrak? -Been to a glass blowing studio, that specialized in erotic art? Etc., etc., etc.,.....Do you have a strange hobby, or ever enjoyed an event that was at least a slight trajectory off of "normal" (whatever THAT means)? |

"Frozen Dead Guy Days" Nederland, CO
(long story short)...a Grandpa who was interested in cryogenics, and his grandsons who honored his wishes with an ice filled shed. Now it's an "event". |

The strangest event I ever saw (but did not participate in) was a Crow sun dance in the Big Horn Mountains. Other than that, nothing springs to mind.

Oh man...would LOVE to see the northern festivities!!!....the Hopi Kachina dances were AmAzInG! I know why they do it, but I don't know how... 2 days of just dancing and smoking... I would've passed out after 3 hours. |

England, 1974.
I was browsing in a wee shop tucked away on a side street that had the most beautiful objects I had ever seen. Intriguing, new, different items from everywhere. Totally fascinating. I was alone so I wandered up and down every aisle. Handled most of the merchandise. There were no price tags on anything. Finally, after seeing everything the proprietess had, I approached her behind her counter. Where she had been watching me for over 2 hours. 'Everything is so lovely!' I told her. She smiled. 'But I see no prices?' 'No' she said. 'So how do I know what you are asking?' 'Everything of beauty has value' she said. I showed her a ceramic figurine I had latched onto. 'How much is this?' I asked. 'What do you think it is worth?' she countered. 'Well, I would pay you 25 pounds for it?' 'You have good taste' she offered. Then.. 'I really do not sell anything here.' 'But how does your shop survive?' I queried. 'Oh' she said, I live in the flat above, this is my collection..I let people look, and appreciate, but I do not sell anything.' 'Come back any time' she said. I still remember it, and the perfection of her goods. She took payment in others enjoyment of her stuff. Wow Just wow. |

THAT....is just FREAKING FABULOUS....Fab! I'm assuming "London".....and the apex of the energy there still surviving? It would not surprise me were she there still :-) I returned several times, just to chat with her. World's apart, but I understood her. If you look deep enough, there is something in everyone to make you kick back and think..wow. She has stuck with me a long time :-) |

No punk lifestyle yet. Easy subway system, you could wander anywhere and actually arrive and return. The wonderful 2-story buses, that were pretty scary :-) Totally fascinating as a cultural center (stayed at Cambridge U) and their history was in every step you took on cobbled streets. Saw the Queen and the mister drive by in a carriage. I am glad I got my traveling in, before the world became so scary and Americans got targeted. |

Oh I don't know.... Do you have a strange hobby, or ever enjoyed an event that was at least a slight trajectory off of "normal" (whatever THAT means)? Yes, I have...I was 21 and dating a man who spent summer weekends hill climbing (riding dirt bikes) in abandoned strip mines in southern Ohio...This was before the days of reclaiming...Every Saturday the men would trailer their bikes, load up the kids, wives, girlfriends, and baskets of food and head to the mines...While "the men" were having fun, "the women" were babysitting, serving food and drinks, bullchitting, trading recipes, and changing diapers ...After about three weekends of this, I asked my guy if I could try...The snickering and eye rolls that followed only made me more determined....After some "feminine" eye batting and borderline begging, he acquiesced and gave me these instructions....Give it hell on the climb, just before you crest, let off...Everything went OK till I got close to the top, chocked, went full throttle, and shot up in the air like a cannon...Talk about a thrill!...To this day, I don't know why I didn't end up in traction...I just remember thinking, "No wonder they kept this a secret!"...My guy bought me a little Kawasaki the following week, the following summer I bought a street bike and got my endorsement...Great fun!.... |
