"As for the "burn" article.

You have sadly mistaken me for someone who is ...quote:"willing to sign off on and espouse a creed that postulates people whose only 'crime' is to not believe as you do should burn for eternity." This is truely an insulting fallacy!!! In NO WAY do I believe those who do not share the same religious beliefs as I shall... quote: "burn for eternity". DO NOT LABEL ME AS SUCH PERSON AGAIN."

I'm not the only person reading that thread who thought you were posting (if you'll pardon the expression) 'flamebait'. Regular readers of that forum are used to seeing expository zealotry placed there as a form evangelical 'witnessing' in the commission of proselytizing. And since you didn't post any attribution for the piece, how is anyone else to know that what appears under you name is anything but what you yourself wrote based on your convictions, thoughts, or opinions?

"The Burn story was not written by me, but a story I wished to pass on. The word "burn" is a modern way of saying Tu shea'"

You'll have to forgive me, but to me it usually means "You Stupid Atheist" when I see it posted in a religious context or "They wired another one wrong" when on the job. :)

Quoting and attribution. It's the right thing to do.

Fanta... re:

"War involves at least two entire populations, as well as innocents that are caught up in it by no choice of their own. Like devinci says there is nothing pretty or fair about it, and responsibility for it should lie on the heads of all involved, Governments and the people.

If the people live in a Democracy where they are free to raise their voices and dont then they should feel responsible for every innocent man, woman, and child that is maimed or killed.
The ones that cry nuke em all or win at all cost, have no conscience or decency. I am sure these people have no problem sleeping at night!"

I could not agree more with you (and Davinci) on this this....flowerforyou

"By no means should you trust anyone's judgement but your own. Who else should decide what is morally right or wrong but what one see's through their own eyes. The Golden rule, believed to be universal does not apply for each man or woman in the exact manner in some form or application. There is no formula to ethics that singles out each indidual. What we do, and think is what we must go to bed with every night. Our opinions vary, and what rules are made are made by popular demand are the similaries we share. We share these by culture, race, nation, etc. As varied as our differences so be our ethics. "

Yes, most generalities are false, including this one. But, I've found a study of The Prisoner's Dilemma to be a pragmatist's guide to the Golden Rule and its application. If you've not heard of this staple of games theory until now, I urge you to Google up material about it. It's a most enlightening theory about human behaviour.

You also might find the Wikipedia article on "The Dollar Auction" useful. In some ways, it's not unlike what's happening now in Iraq.

Just something I've noticed....

Is it possible for us to all share our opinions freely?
It seems like everyone just bickers about things. Everyone should be able to speak their mind w/o being personally attacked for their beliefs.

I respect your beliefs....will you respect mine?

What is more fair; Spock or Data? Spock was half Human and half Vulcan. He was like a human who tried to act like a machine. Data was android. He tried to act human.laugh
