what words did you learn have different or additional meanings than you thought?

With me being a Melmacian, I learned the hard way that a word for "cat" can have another meaning. One time, I saw a woman who had a cat with her. So, I asked her, "Can I eat your p*u*s*s*y?" She responded by slapping me. How was I to know that you Humans gave that word a meaning that has nothing to do with a cat?

Well even the word good can be used for bad things. Like telling a serial killer he was a good killer. It's the same a great really. It's only a positive word when describing positive things. Like you're really good at cooking.

i don't think that analogy works...good still means good, even tho it was describing a bad thing...

examples:
you're really good at cooking.
you're really good at killing....

Basically I'm just saying just like the word great. Good can de used as a descriptive of skill level. Being a good killer isn't really a good thing now is it? hahaha

These semantic arguments are generally quite pointless. It's always one side insisting that the dictionary tells us what words mean and the other saying that meaning comes from common usage.

I've heard the word good use the way I described.The difference between good and great is the level of skill, flavor, speed or what ever it is you happen to be talking about. Fine, good and great are all words to describe a level of something. It could be talking about skill, comfort or well lots of things

Like if you ask how the temp is here and I say it's fine. Then that could be take to mean it's tolerable. Good would be better than fine and would indicate it's possible pleasurable. Great would probably mean it was very desirable and enjoyable. excellent is another one used probably interchangeably with great.

I was taught good is an adjective that describes quality of a thing or person and well is an adverb that describes skill of an action,,,

so soldiers would be said to be good killers or to kill well,,,

but it has become common for good to be used as an adverb too,,

If you think along those lines, what is good is a matter of opinion. You might say that killing is not good but someone might say that it would be good to kill germs, or Hitler etc.

I grew up believing screw was item used to hold 2 or more objects together. ie. wood, plastic or metal.

i also thought hoe was a garden implement and that cus was short for cousin as well as dog was a 4 legged canine.
