CONDOMS:

According to a 1993 report from the Medical Institute for Sexual Health, "A more complete review of the scientific data (regarding condom failure rate) shows condom failure to range between 0 percent and 31 percent. . . Condoms only reduced HIV transmission by 69 percent. . . The resultant 31percent failure in prevention means many HIV infections, all resulting in premature death. . . Medical studies confirm that condoms do not offer much, if any, protection in the transmission of Chlamdydia and Human Papillomavirus Disease." . . . In short, the best way to be free from any of these Diseases (STD), is to abstain from having sex and wait until you get married.

Oh and waiting until you get married is gonna change everything and stop people infecting each other? What a load of crap! If one condom ain't enough to protect you? Wear 2, or get it vacuum packed? Even better, wear a bin bag over your dobber? This report is from 1993? A lot of medical advances have happened in 20 years. So this report is like your ideals? Outdated!

What if you don't plan to ever get married? Are you never supposed to have sex just because of some lame, outdated reported or some religious, moral stance that has pretty much gone by the wayside with modern people?huh

And what if the person you marry is a cheater, who goes out and sleeps with other people who just happen to have a disease and brings it back to share with you under the guise of "oh so holy marital relations?" What then???noway

Married sex is no better or worse than any other sex. Having premarital sex doesn't make you a whore or a slut or more susceptible to catching a disease. Having indiscriminate sex where you don't use protection is what causes people to contract diseases. I agree about being careful and all that, but you don't have to be married to have safe sex.

Brand new condoms for the win!

Rebranding

The Medical Institute for Sexual Health renamed itself "The Medical Institute," as part of an attempt "to legitimize its message by rebranding itself as science-based," according to Jessica Valenti. The group "touts itself as being founded to 'confront the global epidemics of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.... We identify and evaluate scientific information on sexual health and promote healthy sexual decisions and behaviors by communicating credible scientific information,'" Valenti wrote. "Sounds innocuous, but the Medical Institute is a hard-core abstinence-only organization. Its advisory board reads like a Who's Who of purity pushers," including W. David Hager, "a former Bush appointee to the FDA's advisory board on reproductive health, who suggested prayer as a cure for PMS and whose ex-wife alleged in The Nation that he had repeatedly raped her." Oh goody, I was right, I do not have to use condoms. After all its failure rate is up to 31% and only 69% effective STD protection so I would get it anyways. And it will not kill the feel doing without. pitchfork

though IM not sure of the source or its accuracy regarding condom use (does condom failure include tampered with condoms and wrongly placed condoms,,,,etc)

abstaining till marriage is sound advice,,to decrease the chances,, but not to eliminate them,,,

Even if you abstain till marriage you will still be sleeping with their partners for the last 10 years or so, unless you mean absolute virgins.

of course, that's why it doesn't eliminate the risk

but its less risk with one partners past partners, than with multiple partners past partners,,,

Well, the flavoured ones are quite good anyway and as I'm unlikely to ever have sex with a Christian fundamentalist I don't know what it's got to do with you anyway, unless perhaps you can pull some survey out of your arse that says that you can catch it from toilet seats after all.

This is what I meant.^^^^

I accept that there are Christians on "Mingle" in particular, because the forums are interesting and informative. ( IMO)

What rubs me out of sorts, is posting " OUTDATED" info about contraceptives and the " Abstain" method.

I am totally cool with a thread... " This is Why I Abstain" and list one's reason, even if that reason is I have Christian beleifs.
