I wonder what he got out of it. To understand something like this you really got to try and relate to it.

Are you daring enough?

You can also watch "Whitechapel". Bit less bluddy ...
And might increase your chances of finding a woman --> A bloke that's considering running around with a meat cleaver is not particularly attractive frustrated

I got the idea from a film I saw called MANHUNTER.

"Will Graham is a former FBI agent who recently retired to Florida with his wife Molly and their young son. Graham was a 'profiler'; one who profiles criminal's behavior and tries to put his mind into the minds of criminals to examine their thoughts while visiting crime scenes. Will is called out of his self-imposed retirement at the request of his former boss Jack Crawford to help the FBI catch an elusive serial killer, known to the press as the 'Tooth Fairy', who randomly kills whole families in their houses during nights of the full moon and leaves bite marks on his victims. To try to search for clues to get into the mind of the killer, Will has occasional meetings with Dr. Hannibal Lecktor, a charismatic but very dangerous imprisoned serial killer that Will captured years earlier which nearly drove him insane from the horrific encounter that nearly cost Will's life. With some help and hindrance, Will races against the clock before the next full moon when the 'Tooth Fairy' will ..."

Think I seen that movie..
Something in the brain of a serial killer functions differently from the 'normal' brain.
Can't remember exactly how and what, Google it if it interests you.
And yeah, profiling takes a very strong person. Suppose it can get tricky to not lose yourself.
Me being an HSP (High Sensitive Person) am prone to picking up other ppl's moods and feelings. Not particularly pleasant. I've learned to deal with it, so it doesn't bother me much anymore. I think profilers are sort of similar, having a natural ability to do this, like an HSP.
I'd definitely not want to get into a fruitcake's mind!

Jack was actually quite tame compared to other, more notorious, and sadistic serial killers. I found their stories...for the lack of a better word, intriguing and have watched a few. A number of short documentaries are readily available on the net now.

The hypothalamus and limbic part of the brain regulates emotions and hormones...Typically it is found deteriorated in brain scans of serial killers due to previous head injuries or the like.

See, if I turned my head the other way...I'd in all likelyhood be a vastly different person. But while my hypothalamus and limbic portions of my brain don't really work, hence my lack of emotions, my temporal lobe is relatively fine. If the temporal lobe is damaged it usually means the person is very angry, can snap on a dime, and do some destruction.

Interestingly enough, many serial killers are quite calculated. The Zodiac Killer for instance still hasn't been caught even after an exhaustive investigation, Dennis Rader "BTK" would have never been caught had the police not told him that they couldn't track a floppy disk, the I-70 killer still hasn't been caught and he was active as recently as the early 90's.

Their brains certainly do not work the same as a normal functioning brain would, but most of them were actually quite intelligent, possessing above average and even genius IQ's. Aside from that though there are plenty of social impacts to be taken into consideration as well, such as friends and family...Even in some cases as simple as the elementary school teacher.

There was a study during the previous year that concluded that a serial killer's propensity to kill can be predicted by his brain's neuronal firing, which was said to be akin to epileptic seizures.

You don't have to go on a killing spree to understand or relate to the actions of a serial killer. slaphead

There's a lot of interesting research done on the subject if you really wanna know what makes psychopaths or sociopaths tick. Of course, there are several possibilities but neuroscientist James Fallon has some pretty extensive data collected showing a combination of genetic factors and brain scan anomalies in many serial killers.

Quite fascinating learning about this stuff while getting my degree in biobehavioral psychology. Hard to say what they get out of it. Seems to be enjoyment oddly enough, sickening as that is to conceive of, although they actually don't really 'feel' the way normal people feel so it's hard to use normal terms like joy to describe it. You certainly wouldn't have the same reaction they do if you went out killing people though so no need to go hack someone to death to try to relate. Seriously kid?! whoa

I think he was a doctor and may have
been experimenting in underground organ transplants with plans to eventually surface as a medical innovator.

There are some theories that H.H. Holmes was actually the ripper.

And I would not label it daring, more like abominable.

Of course, there's this too...

I mean, if it is evil; it certainly has to be a shape shifting reptile from space...
