Which would you suggest Sony PSP or the Nintendo DS ????
I was thinking the PSP because of all of the things you can do with it besides just gaming . The DS looks cool I just dont know much about it . What other capabilities does the DS have ? What is your experience ? Anything I should know before purchasing ? |

Well like a lot of Nintendo products lately The DS provides new gaming options at usually a more affordable price. Granted I still don't like the DS because it is too expensive for my taste, but the dual screen feature is a nice touch. Also The DS may perform better as a gaming machine because that's all it's designed to do, the PSP plays movies and several other things, which could effect it's overall effectiveness in just one of those categories.
This is just speculation on my part as I have not played the PSP. |

The PSP is hands down the better game machine. It is also a music machine and the screen is much better. There are optional speakers that you can connect to it also. DS is a baby toy in comparison

Thanks for the responses here and via email I am going with the PSP and maybe a DS aswell later on . My IPod died a month ago so I need a replacement for that aswell and I think the PSP will work well for gaming and music.
Thanks. |

I like the DS personally, cause its not trying to be a multi-function remote, its a game machine with internet abilities.

I've had both in the past. You definately get more features with the PSP but it is more expensive. The DS is pretty cool but I ended up not using the touch screen functionality a whole lot. It just dosn't give you the same level of control as a conventional button system. It does allow for some interesting mini games though. Another thing to consider is the game selection. I think the PSP has a lot more broad a range of titles whearas the Nintendo lineup keeps things pretty family friendly for the most part. Also another thing to consider with the PSP is how you use it's features. It's pretty versatile in that it can play videos and music but remember that you need additional memory. If I remember correctly, when you buy the console it dosn't even come with any memory storage space so unless you spend a good bit more money on a memory card you won't even be able to save your games. Getting movies on it can be tricky too. If you wanna buy the UMV discs they sell you can, but there are a lot of movies that aren't available in that format. There are programs that can rip DVDs to a compatible format but they're not always perfect. Anyway that's what I know, have fun

I had a PSP first. Loved it. Hated the loading times in some games. Best game for it is Tekken (load times are short, it looks great, and plays just like the PS2 version).
Then I got a DS. World of difference. The DS games are not graphically as good as the PSP, but IMO, the games are more fun. I love my DS...play it every week. Haven't touched my PSP in 5 months. |

The DS, I can't believe there are still n00bs out there that question this. The DS is clearly the better system, and to those who want to deny it... Just take a look at the sales.

DS>PSP and when I had my psp I loved the media features. I used it as my MP3 and had wrestling shows on there. However, when it came down to it the games sucked where as the DS has a ton of amazing games. Nintendo's got it where it counts and that's the gameplay it self and the games. Not to down the PSP as it has much better graphics, but the games itself and the controls aren't up to par with the DS. The media features while great also could be outdone by a video ipod for the same price.

One thing to take into consideration here is that Nintendo considers itself a Software company, and not a hardware company. So what that means is they will build hardware to match the way they want to play their games. Some "egghead" over there thought that it would be fun to play with two screens and a stylus. For a lot of the games that kind of innovation has worked out very well. Taking consoles as a whole, most other companies try to put as much functionality as possible in them, which in the end pulls away from what is supposed to be there first and primary function GAMES. I like the fact that when it came to this generation of handhelds and consoles that Nintendo was brave enough to make some sacrifices (graphics power), to show the world a new way to play games.

I personally experienced both DS and PSP. i had the DS first.. it was pretty good.. some of the games were good. now i have PSP Slim and Lite-which i think is awsome.. the games are nice and smooth looking..Sony took the 3D graphics and actually did something with it. The DS has the ablity to have good graphics but nintendo keeps churning out 2D games..kinda lame... the good thing i like about DS was the battery life.. thats the only down fall of the PSP..battery life is only like 5 or so hours.

So what is wrong with 2D games? You think they are lame? You're nothing but an epic failure if that's your logic of what makes a great video game. I mean games like Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, WarioWare: Touched, or even Yoshi's Island DS may be 2D, but they sure as heck beat MANY 3D games.
All I got from your post was "PSP has better graphics so it must be better!!!111". You only complemented the DS on it's battery life and completely ignored the dual screens, microphone and touch screen functionalities. |

I haven't played either, but I've talked to a few people that have, and they say that the DS is better. Sure the PSP can play videos, music and ROMs as well as PSP games, but the games for the DS are better. Sure graphics are important in a game to some extent, but gameplay is what's really important. You can also play games from the previous Gameboy systems. The DS also has a built in mic, wi-fi, and of course the touch screen capabilities. As soon as I get the money, I'm probably going to buy a DS. I was trying to win a PSP, but to do that I need to get 5 people to sign up to Gametap. Anyone want to help me out with that? But I digress, DS pwns PSP.

id pick the ds 4 the same reason id pick the wii over ps3 n 360 bcause it is a step 4ward in the evolution of the art of videogames. all the other systems r boosting graphics capability and other such features but nintendo is actually changing the way a videogame is played, real innovation, which the psp, ps3 n xbox 360 just dont have

"You're nothing but an epic failure if that's your logic of what makes a great video game"
Dude, you don't need to attack people just because you don't share their opinion. Get a life. Graphics are not everything but they do count in certain situations, though I don't think the hand held market is one. I personally think the DS is the way to go. PSP is more expensive, less battery life, and I don't care much for their games. They just seem to try to make hand held versions of games that are out for the ps. If I want to play the game I will just get the ps version and not the PSP. DS games are entertaining and innovative. Elite Beat agents was fun as hell and I loved the Kirby Canvus Curse, when my friend let me play it. |

"all the other systems r boosting graphics capability and other such features but nintendo is actually changing the way a videogame is played, real innovation, which the psp, ps3 n xbox 360 just dont have"
I don't completely agree with that because I must say that x-box live has changed the way I play games. Knowing when my friends are on, playing with them no matter where they are, easily joining or inviting them to games, and talking to them online have all changed how I perceive gaming. Live has gotten this down to a science. |

I have a DS myself and it's ok. I still think the PSP is more of a "gamer" system
