Thing I don't like about Landel as a promoter, Sportsnut, is his constant advertising talent that he knows good and well aren't going to show up. That's false advertising, and too bad laws against that aren't enforced enough in wrestling.

Getting back to a positive note, I liked Blassie as well. There were a ton of great managers over the years. Just to name a few NOT named Jim Cornette or Bobby Heenan(The two greatest, in my opinion):

Does anyone remember(I think this was in 2001 or 2002), when it seemed like Shane McMahon was going to become an on-air manager?
His stable was to have been consisting of Big Show, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Edge and Christian. They dropped the idea after only a few weeks. Too bad, the wrestling talent was there with four of the five(And in fairness, Big Show WAS effective when used right), and no one can dispute the fact that Shane was, by far, the most talented member of the McMahon family.

Paul Bearer, Sherri Martel, Captain Lou Albano

Sorry, knox. I kinda cheated. Most all answers can be found with the benefit the internet search engine. I must say, though, that it took a good little while to find the answer. I was gonna guess Bob Backlund before I found the right answer. Came across a lot of names in the process that brought back memories of sitting in front of the family black & white watching Gorilla Monsoon, Bobo Brazil and of course, the Living Legend, Bruno Sammatino.

That's not cheating, Mac. That's the good thing about Google. You can call up all kinds of matches to watch. I remember hearing about Sammartino, Monsoon, ect.,but I grew up in the South, watching the Funks(Terry and Dory,Jr),Jack Brisco, Harley Race, and a ton of others. I truly miss those days where wrestling was split up into territories instead of the "worldwide" stuff we're force-fed now. I don't want to sound like a bitter old fart , but my favorite decade of wrestling was the 1970s.

mine was the 80's. i lived in california at the time and i could watch the awa on local channels, world class on espn, nwa/wcw on tbs and wwF on local channels

oh and going back to landel. one reason he is a bad promoter is because he puts out a card with names on it. the names don 't show because he doesn't pay anything worht showing up for

I got some old videos of Memphis Championship Wrestling from the channel 13 era before they went to channel 5 ! I remember all those names coming through Memphis one time or another! Yes, those were the days when wqe told them to shut up and fight. It was a live TV show in the mid-south for years. I'm sure you all remember them days! At one time I think it was Jarrett Promotions!

I remember the AWA, Sportsnut. Believe it or not, in the early 80s, the AWA was the best of the 3 majors(AWA, NWA, WWF).

I usually don't think too much of the "historical" videos WWE puts out. But everyone should check out their "History of the AWA" DVD. I really thought that was a great one. Sure brought back some memories. I'm actually looking forward to their upcoming World Class(Von Erichs)history DVD.

I remember watching Georgia Championship Wrestling on the Atlanta superstation(WTBS?) in the late 70's - early 80's. Had such characters as Abdullah the Butcher. The host was Gordon Solie who was a perfect straight man for those guys.
