Topic: A man buying a girl a ring | |

How much does it mean to you to give/get a ring for/from your loved one?
And when would you give a girl a ring? I.e. when things are really good and serious but not within a year? ANd what if your man doesn't buy you a ring even though things are good and serious? So in short, what is the meaning of a ring to you? |

That is a really good question! I guess it is different for every couple. As we get older, things USUALLY tend to move somewhat slower but not always.
Two weeks ago a friend of mine said some other friends of mine were getting married. They have been dating for two years. I saw them at Octoberfest and said, "I hear you are getting married!" Congratulations. They both looked at me weird and said. "We are not getting married. Where did you hear that?" I told them the source. Later, the guy said "Man! You nearly blew it! I am taking her to Times Square in New York next week so I can put my proposal up on the Time's Square Billboard!" I said "Sorry. Mike didn't tell me what was going on." They went to Time's Square. He proposed in lights. She accepted and got a big ring. They still don't know when they are getting married. |

I'm assuming you mean an engagement ring? As in when would I expect to become to engaged to the guy I'm seeing, if I was seeing anyone? Or am I reading your post wrong?

Not necessarily an engagement ring. You can also buy a woman a ring, or get each other rings, as a token of commitment. Even if there isn't a wish to get engaged or married.
Maybe there's different customs in different countries, but still interesting to know. |

Once my boys dad got me a promise ring for Christmas. I had been with him over five years and we already had our two boys. It was pretty but cheap. I would have been more appreciative but it just made me realize after five years, two kids, running me into the ground trying to make a family and all I get is a $30 promise ring, he don't want what I want. Time proved me to be right. Its all good tho.

Its not the price or size of the ring....its what the heart is saying when its given.

Ah, well, in that case. I don't think there's a set time or anything. One of my ex's bought me a ring once, it was so pretty, it had crosses on it (I love crosses). I eventually lost, but it was very nice.

Only ever got engaged once and it was a Victorian diamond ring I got, from my cousin, who owns an Antique shop. Cost me a bit, but who cares? Not every day you get engaged, not unless you're Zsa Zsa Gabor, or Elizabeth Taylor!

How much does it mean to you to give/get a ring for/from your loved one? I probably might buy him a ring just to show my appreciation of him. To get a ring from a guy, means he was thinking about me, when he bought it. So I'd find it really sweet. But I'm not expecting any ring. And when would you give a girl a ring? I.e. when things are really good and serious but not within a year? I'd maybe get him one after about one year. Long enough to get to know him. ANd what if your man doesn't buy you a ring even though things are good and serious? It's not a big deal to me :) It's up to him whether he gets me a ring. I will still want him either way. A ring is merely a symbol of appreciation. It's the actual relationship that I care about more than any piece of jewellery. So in short, what is the meaning of a ring to you? It can be to symbolize our love for each other. But as I said, I won't ever expect one. It would just be nice to have |

I wanted that engagement ring. |

For me to pick out jewelry of any kind let alone a ring for a woman she has to be pretty effing special to me. Time isn't an issue with that its all about emotional connection.

@ Rawrr girl, so you would buy a guy a ring even if he hadn't given you one?
I like your view, nice and relaxed. @ Lionsbrew, so to you it does mean commitment to buy a woman jewelry, esp a ring. So let's say you'd buy a woman a ring, then it wouldn't necessarily be an engagement ring? @ Hellsboy, can't speak for others, but I don't care about diamonds. Another thing: Do you think there is a difference in giving/getting a silver and gold ring? |

Buy a woman any ring, and it's all over but the cryin... It's like some weird voodoo connection to unhappiness.
Mark my words... Ring should be the last thing you buy her unless you're planning to get engaged and married. |

Buy a woman any ring, and it's all over but the cryin... It's like some weird voodoo connection to unhappiness. Mark my words... Ring should be the last thing you buy her unless you're planning to get engaged and married. When I read the thread title, that was my first thought too! ...But then I started thinking about the rings given to me over the years beginning at 14 when my boyfriend gave me his class ring ...Back then, we wrapped them in angora yarn and wore them on our right hand ring finger...It was a very big deal ... I remember (fondly) other rings too...My birthstone, a Scrimshaw carving, an Opal, a black onyx with a tiny diamond, an ivory broach with matching ear rings.....Oh the memories!...All good, all given sincerely....So I changed my mind and will just say yes, giving a ring to someone your care about can be a very good thing.... |
