which fits you best ? Marriage or a Long Term Relationship ? If so ? Why ? How how is to Long to be in a Relationship before you'll want Marriage?

good question,, I have been rethinking the whole dynamics of relationships lately I wonder how much of the 'marriage' thing,, ie, the big ceremony, the state license, the public display,,etc,,,,is really tantamount or significant to what marriage is supposed to be I am at a point that, I could definitely do without the formal state recognized and licensed 'marriage',, for a more intimate and personal long term relationship/marriage so I guess the answer for me, is a lifetime commitment is a lifetime commitment, whatever process people go through to make it with each other (and God) and I do prefer to have that commitment than to remain in an eternal 'casual' status,,,

48 years old raised 2 girls..... Never been Married! Relationships are either going to work or they won't! Marrage is just a peice of paper a Legal Doccument, I have nothing against it. I think if two people have trust, honesty, communication and patience then anything can work. Insecurity, cheating, lies, going behind yur partners ack is all wrong. My friend is maried, bur husband has cheated on her, yet she stays commited to this marrage. I myself don't think I could continue to not trust my partner. This was a total SHOCK to me ....because I stay with them a lot her husband is a drummer & works for famous bands. I know they fight, but I never would of imagined he would cheat! She's beautiful, she has a great job, she cooks, cleans she does everything! If he lost her he would never replace her. When I found out I was in TEARS! I'm thinking wht the HELL what's the point in being Married if he desires someone else!!!!

I honestly believe people marry because 1. They believe it is a way to keep someone and shows a commitment to that person. If you are in a relationship then you can feel like the end could come at any time. A marriage kind of gives you a sense of a security. Yeah...it is a psychological thing. 2. Tax breaks. Sounds harsh but people will do that. 3. If it is a wealthy man he can marry a woman who is "A perfect 10". It's more of a "Hey. Look at my wife. My possession. My girl". 4. Pregnancy. 5. People want their cake and eat it too. Self explanatory.

Probably should post a real response while I'm at it... Marriage isn't for me. It's a piece of paper. A contract between state and couple, not man and woman. Government is already invasive enough. They can remain out of my love life. Commitment is made with your heart. I want my man free to leave, there because he chooses to be with me everyday. I don't need to marry him to know that he won't find someone else. If I treat him right, love him the way he wants to be loved, he won't stray. If he does, I wouldn't want to be married to a piece of **** like that anyways! I have no problem making a lifetime commitment to someone if we love each other. I'd do it in front of God, in front of family and friends, could handle a ceremony and such, honeymoon would be sweet but I won't get the marriage license from the state. Just my warped thinking. To each their own!
