Ok so I thought about this yesterday when I was at Wendy's (I am not a big fast food person, but it was late and I needed to feed my kids). As I was ordering the manager was clearly flirting with me and being very talkative and giving my kids all this free food. This got me thinking. Why is it guys will flirt, but will not take the initiative to give me their phone number? What does it take for you (guys or gals) to give or get a phone number to see if someone is interested in getting to know you more? I feel I am out of the loop and could use some advice on that first step. Thank you!

Haha can only speak for myself but I wouldn't just go around handing out my number like I'm some hotline. Isn't the guy meant to ask for the girls number and if she's interested she will give him her number? And maybe the thought of rejection is so overwhelming and embarrassing that we don't do it?

Did you tell him that you are single? If I met a woman that had kids with her I would guess that she probably wasn't and wouldn't ask for her number or offer her mine.

If he ask's me for my number, I sometimes DO give it out, but only if he's friendly enough. lol. It just depends on whether I'm single, and whether I want to or not. I'd have thought it wasn't that hard to figure out :) In other words, I'm obvious.

What is even more funny is that my kids were saying (very loudly), "mom you should date him, he would make a good husband." Any time a guy flirts with me, they think I need to date them.Lol. What cues do you look for when you flirt and the other person flirts back to get a phone number? I almost gave him my business card to "advertise my services" but I believe the guy should take the first step.

Personally, Flirting is a mans way of telling you he's interested, thinks your cute and testing to see your reaction..

Giving you directly his phone number, well.. for one he has no idea of your relationship status, two, if you knock him back.. Whoaa could put him in an Embarrassing situation, especially as you have your kiddies ;)

Its quite a different culture I think also, dependent on country.. while working in Kuwait, seen it so many times, guys and girls would cruise up and down the main highway, if a girl has her window slightly open, she's game for "get to know you", seen many a guy, just stop along side, knock window and start a chat "In the Middle of the 3 lanes :D then pass a number..

I have only had the bottle to do it once myself here in Dubai and that was because you kept looking at me, just wrote my number on a napkin, as we walked out handed it to her.. fair do's though I crapped meself, just in case she looked and said WTF!! LOL.. Outcome, she did call within 20mins :)

Maybe he was just being nice and you caught him on a really good day.

He told me he had a very long day and was tired. There were no customers in the restaurant and that he had so much to do before he had to close and yet he kept talking to me and my kids. My kids would go up to the counter and ask for free food and he would give it to them after he had already given me a bigger frosty because he said that I deserved to have more than my kids.
