Which do you other geeks prefer and why?

As for myself, I'm a Star Trek fan. Star Wars is okay, but always struck me as a little childish. Star Trek is more interesting story telling IMHO.

Yeah, the only really GOOD star wars film was Empire Strikes Back.

When Star Trek involves Captain Kirk and his particular crew, then Star Trek is better.

Trek for sure.
I never could bring myself to finish star wars.

What makes either story line good or not good is the presence or absence of comedy.

When Star Trek involves Captain Kirk, comedy is present.
When Star Wars involves Han Solo, comedy is present.

Why does it have to be either or? Love them both for different reasons.

Star Wars. Simply because I saw the first at age five and that film experience made me fall in love with movies. Empire is by far the best film of the series....I will agree with that. I do enjoy Trek as well. Love the J.J Abrams remake too.

I love them both. Star Trek will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first show (other than Twilight Zone, which was nowhere near as ambitious) that took science fiction seriously. In addition it had the idealistic message, which appealed to my teenage self. Sure, it was pretty simplistic sometimes and sometimes even childish (Halloween show), but it was the first time extraterrestrials had been shown as possibly interesting, even friends.

Remember the famous bar scene in Star Wars? That could never have happened without Star Trek laying the groundwork that aliens were all different, had their own issues, and yet could still be worked with by humans.

The Star Wars series (the first three films, which were all I saw) had better special effects, a great story line, and more complex characters. But over the years I've found that Star Trek seems to resonate more. The subsequent series added a lot of depth, all the way through the Ferengi and Odo characters, and I even thought the movies were all good additions too.

But I wonder if that deepening would have happened without Star Wars to prod them on.

ST people can like SW and SW people can like ST. But, at some point, you gotta make a choice and that choice defines your inner geekness.

***Just in case, that was a joke***

I love them both.

Yep; me too. I have a Storm Trooper outfit as well as several Star Trek costumes. Haven't worn them in a long time; maybe its time to renew my inner Geekness. laugh

True. BUT the Star Trek movies would never have happened had it not been for the success of Star Wars, Star Wars revitalized science fiction on the big screen(and small), so the producers of Star Trek wanted to cash in on this and got Star Trek The Motion Picture in the theater as fast as they could. Which led to the film franchise and new television series.

Also George Lucas' company ILM(Industrial Light & Magic) has done the special effects for most of the Star Trek film franchise including the new reboot and upcoming sequel.

Nah, I got it :D And I do know some it's either or, but for me, I love scifi, so as long as it's entertaining I don't care what franchise it's part of.
