where i come from we cook at home. Eating out is if you go out on dates or meetings or just hang out with friends. Can stay a whole year not eating out..

I'd say 3 -4 meals a week would be considered eating out, but the lunches that are made at the school cafeteria where I work count more towards the home-cooked side of things. There is a Culinary Arts Program and they had their own vegetable garden and herb indoor garden this year, so in the fall we were eating fresh beans out of the garden and mushroom soup from scratch! As far as I'm concerned, that beats a sandwich from home, any day.

Mostly we try to cook at home, and in big batches so we can take hot lunches and freeze left overs for later.

Once or twice a month, we get together with friends for a Friday night out. Love that, too. I just love food. :)

What I'd like to know is how frequently homeless people "eat in."

I'm willing to bet that it's not very often...Maybe its time to invite some home to dinner.

I don't invite strangers into my home. Homeless or otherwise. And, I don't suggest other people do either. Just because someone is homeless doesn't mean they are a nice person.

At my church, we fast on certain days and donate the money we would have spent on food that day to feeding the poor. More of that is a better idea than bringing strangers home.

Here in Oregon if you are homeless you are eligible for $200 a month in food stamps,an ex's nephew was on food stamps even though he lived at home with parents, went to school and had a part time job (paid under the table). I imagine that lots of homeless people collect food stamps and buy easy to prepare food like tuna, peanut butter, bread, lunch meats.Back on subject......I maybe have fast food or eat out once a month, rather prepare my food myself so I know what I'm eating. Have been thinking of juicing..........
