So, This guy dates this chick, she becomes pregnant, he tells her that if she gives birth, he'll leave her and have no involvement with her or the baby other than what the law demands of him. Moreover, he tells her if she has an abortion, he'll take her on a trip.

She has the abortion, but he still leaves her. She tries to sue him, but her case is thrown out.

This guy is my new hero!

For all we know he did everything he could including using a condom. Maybe he wasn't the father. Maybe she was already pregnant and went look for a rich man to take advantage of.

Yes he did. And everything he did was within the law. Abortion is a legal form of birth control.

It's my opinion that as long as abortion is legal a man shouldn't be responsible for any more than half the cost of an abortion if a woman he's seeing becomes pregnant.

She has the right to end the pregnancy whether he wants the child or not. He, on the other hand is forced to pay her if she chooses to give birth. In other words, she can force him to do the "responsible thing." But, he cannot force her to do the "responsible thing."

This, I think, is unfair.

Again, something I don't understand from the point of view of the religious.

Until today I thought that in creating new life, the man donates his sperm, the woman donates her egg, and God chips in by donating a soul for the vessel to create a life.

Many, many pregnancies occur with no life: with natural abortions, miscarriages, fetal deaths. In these instances man gave his just share, the semen, woman gave her just share, an egg, the semen combined with the egg to produce conception, and yet life was not the outcome, since God willed it to not happen, god widthheld his own contribution.

So... why is the child's life half hers and half his. That's the part that I have real trouble understanding, given the Christian faith as a guide and measuring system.

The life belongs in its entirety to God, as far as I can see it written in the Christian ownership manual.

IF she had been desiring an abortion, he should pay half expenses of ending that life, as he would have no choice(which is not fair)

If she had not, he should pay for the life he helped her create (and had FULL choice in creating )

the flesh is donated by the parents, the soul is donated by God

neither have ownership of the soul, both have responsibility for the flesh,,,

For all we know we know nothing, and to gain assured knowledge, a simple dna test could have done the irrefutable revelation of the father's identity.
