Dimethyltryptamine - It's a trip.

If you die in real life, do you die in a dream?

Yeah. Got all Zen right there.

I used to have a recurring dream about working into a tunnel next to a canel. Every time before i hit the water i would wake up. I read sometime after that you cant die in your dreams as you don't know what dieing feels like!

This subject has been a very touchy one for many years. We dont have the fully understanding of this, but mostly with dying, especially in your case, there is an underlying cause. Its more to do with unconscious dealings, the way you are feeling about something. I'm not too familiar about having a second subject in the dream, but if you are drowning in water by yourself, its because you are feeling bogged down with something; money, relationships, etc. I think that when someone or something is forcing you under water, that is the subject of your submergance. It is up to you to feigure out what that subject is.

I was going through a stressfull time and my gran came to me in a dream saying very clearly ... you dont need to put up with this! I woke up instantly. Expecting her to be there as it was so real... I couldnt get this out my head for a few days as she had died a couple of yrs before. I also used to have the same dream when I was a child and to this day i still remember everything about it as i used to b scared to go to sleep knowing it was going to happen again.... a man in a black cloak would b hiding behind the sofa, i couldnt see his face as he had a black top hat on which was pulled down to sit on the bridge of his nose, ive woke up and walked into the livingroom and he chases me round the room trying to get me but all of a sudden i stop and grab him and throw him out the window then i wake up. dont know why this always happened.

As much as i'd love to know the answer to that...if I happened upon the experience...frustratingly...i'd imagine it would be a little too late for me to find out!...BUMMER!frustrated

A dream of death is the opposite. In a way you can look at it as this. When you die in a dream something that is not needed anymore is dying. Leading to a rebirth of sort.

No, I don't believe this.

You can experience all kinds of things in a dream. Just because you dream that you are dying, won't make it so.... You can have extraordinarily vivid dreams, and experience things you never experience when you're awake, because your brain is an experiencing machine and correctly prompted, can create great things.

But could you die as a result of something happening to you physiologically while dreaming - heart attack, or something else - MAYBE.

I can agree with this I kept having dreams of not knowing who my family was, what town I lived in, I was just lost now that I'm not worried about needing the comfort of others or belonging I no longer have the dreams.

I just wonder how they would confirm such a thing since there really isn't any way to tell what another person dreamed about?

Obviously not, I've had dreams where I've died, and dreams where other people were dead or dying, and it wasn't true.

This is a difficult one. Though I don't think it happens to a lot. And if you're gonna die in your sleep, I think you'd die anyway, whether you were having a dream or not.

I had this really strange experience while under anaesthetic. I was in the bed, because I felt it, yet I also felt myself on the other side of the room, at the same time. But I can't say that without sounding controversial, because it sounds quite contrived. You can't bring on that sort of experience, unless it happens naturally. I still can't figure out why or how it happened, but it was definitely an adventure.

Years ago I used to have weird experiences where I felt like I was falling into a void and about to die, and if someone didn't keep me from falling asleep I'd go into a coma or something. (This is what I felt, I'm pretty sure it wasn't true. I hope not anyway)

So yeah, there are odd, unexplainable experiences, but if it was possible to die in your sleep and die in real life, we'd be in for trouble. Or stuck in a horror movie...(Nightmare on Elm Street)

Hey people I have one a real doozy…

I was in a car with 3 other people. We were driving on a dirt road a well traveled one I might add…

I happen to look out the window at the scenery, I saw all around me glowing everything grounds road walls everything, get this now this will blow your minds, all of a sudden the road gave way in back sides everywhere then the road ahead gave way, we could not stop, the car kept going into a bright light a volcanic light spewing everywhere we could not stop the car kept going, we all burned up and died everything went black. Then I woke up, not with a start though, just woke up. Can someone explain that one to me.

So...does it count if you die, but you're not the actual person (more like viewing and experiencing everything in 1st person view) yet you're still experiencing the death? I have a lot of recollections and "adventures" as I call them when I'm supposedly asleep and dreaming - not even sure they classify as a dream anymore. The incident I experienced is where I'm watching everything from a woman's eyes as a man approaches her and knocks her to the ground and puts a gun in her mouth and pulls the trigger. It should have been an instant kill, the one side of my thoughts felt along with the pain of the experience, but the shot point-blank somehow missed it's killing mark so I experienced bleeding to death. Um, so yeah...maybe I'm a bit weird, but my dreams are never usually of a pleasant nature though thankfully I don't have dreams about being killed on a regular basis regardless of it being or not.

I've had other really weird dreams that don't fall in the dying category, if anyone's curious I'll try to dig through my dream logs and post a few.

On another thought, I've heard that dreams where you experience very real like events is like your soul or spiritual self leaving the body/vessel it currently resides in to have other experiences to help itself as an individual grow thus helping you grow. I find the concept interesting, though not sure where I stand on that just yet. My recalls are just very odd to me in general.
