Women have the right not to be assaulted regardless of what they are wearing. People will FIGHT this belief to death. I am the only one sticking up for women's right to walk alone and live their lives. Huh? Of course women have the right to walk alone or dress however they like.... Backed up by laws, Peace officers and the general public. But it still happens

Yep. We all have a ton of rights. We can be teachers by day and pole dancers. By night. You have the right to walk around in a thong bikini if you want. But do you stop and ask should I. Just know when you exersize your right, all the guys are going to be turned on. Ok most the straight guys and some of the not so straight guys. They have no right to force themselves on you. But you are playing with fire. You increase your chances at being abused, solicited or raped. The law doesn't stop them. It just try's to punish them after they offend you. On the other side, if you want the guys to see your personality wit humor brains, put your bits and pieces away. I look for those things in a gal and it's near impossible to look past the headlights your showing. Well at least I have to work harder to see the real you. I passed up many a quality lady because there was too much being advertised. Then again if all your looking for is the titillation of guys eyes and seeing them get stupid, then go for it. Just don't go out alone. .

Oops. Am I a thread killer? My point was while we want the bits and pieces. Catch us a different way. Yes some men won't give you the time if day with out seeing the goods. Did you really miss out if you didint catch that guy? Ruth. I'd be really sad if you went home. Your pretty cool. And I can say that having never seen your bits and pieces. . Yet.

is everyone making this a lot more complex then it needs to be? Attackers look for the easiest prey. Usually people who look like victims. If i may say, rapes would appear to happen in locations where the target can be moved fast, to a quieter place. People can be attacked anywhere but you increase your chances by being distracted and unaware and in the wrong place. It is not sexy clothing, its clothes that look like they can be removed easily. There are places no one should go at night. man or woman.

its really very simple... what you fear will come upon you... take that to the bank. If you are always worried about, say the police, it will not be long before they give you something to worry about. the same applies to everything... then of course there are those women who get all dressed up sexy and then when someone looks at them they get offended. thats a trap, not sexual harassment. then of course there's putting yourself in a bad position, like in any bar or club for starters. I have seen a lot of false ********, and mabe one person actually harassed in my whole life and i am 51. I could fear the sun going out but its most likely not going to happen. Do i own a flashlight? yes. do i worry about it? no.

Why is it socially acceptable to tell women not to walk alone at night, but not to dress "appropriately"? The former is more offensive. "Women are not raped because of how they are dressed!" WELL THEN, WOMEN ARE ALSO NOT RAPED BECAUSE THEY ARE WALKING ALONE AT NIGHT! This is degrading. You are saying women are incapable of defending themselves? You are suggesting that they need a MAN by their side??? What's next, should men start accompanying women to dinner and paying for them like in the olden days??? UGH!!! Your OP is nothing more than an opinion, yours...It's common knowledge that women are not raped because they choose to dress provocatively...It's also common knowledge that rape is not an act of passion, it's an act of violence...Since stats imply that 50% of all reported rapes are planned and 73% of identified rapists knew their victim, walking alone at night would increase a persons chance of being raped...If being told not to walk alone pizzes you off, tell it to the person/people offering the advice...In most cases they would be offering it out of concern, love, caring for you and not out of arrogance as you are implying....If you find this degrading you could always just haul off and deck the person showing concern...Just flatten him or her and move on....That's what I'm going to do cause this thread is redundant and boring....

I vote for thigh high stilletos, micro mini 's and push up bras. Then, when I rescue the chick from the perverts, she may wanna give me sex as a token of gratitude. I am chivalrous that way. :)

In general; as much as I really hate to admit it; we are weaker in body strength. I can defend myself but I am trained in martial arts in the military as well as being an ex police officer and do weight lifting. I still try not to walk alone at night even with my training. Now that being said; there are areas in my city a man can't walk down the street alone for fear of being attacked. I am definitely not an old fashioned type woman as I served in the military and I am completely independent of having a man take care of me but I do have good common sense when it comes to walking alone at night. So, I don't see this as degrading for women; just a safety precaution.

When I was in my adventurous years [my twenties] I stupidly went to a nightclub on my own. I wouldn't normally. Someone who was a good friend wanted me to meet them there. After about twenty minutes, some real pushy guy comes up to me, then tries to force me back to a hotel. I threatened to call the police if he didn't leave me alone. I forget the rest of what happened, but I do think it was partly my fault.
