I thought Obama's mother was white? yes and lets review White – A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. Black or African American – A person having origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa. his father is KENYAN, making him BOTH white and BLACK but asthetically, he would be more quickly presumed black than white,,, so technically saying he is african american and leaving out the fact that he is actually half white isn't an honest representation of his actual genetic make up its just because he looks black.. I get it no, technically it can be said he is african american because he has ' origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa.' BEING THAT HIS DAD IS BLACK and being that ASTHETICALLY< his treatment in america would be that of an african american and not a white person it is also technically correct to call him 'white' because of his mothers origins its as honest as saying I am both BLACK and FEMALE they arent mutually exclusive terms so long as it still takes at least TWO People with TWO origins to create a life,,, Oh.. so you call someone something based on a perception of treatment and not actual genetic make up.. Now I get it.. well, thats kind of backward, treatment is most often based upon PERCEPTION of race,,,in america and not actual genetic make up but other than that,, yeah, you got the precept of 'race' as it is used in america,,, |

President Obama is now a Columbian, since he lives in the District of Columbia. However, he is not a Colombian.

as it is used in America is the problem. People born and raised in the USA have a bad tendency to have an ethnocentric perception of the world. I think its just different terminology which is expected to vary amongst people who are living geographically closer. we have ways to , define, the populations in OUR country, as every other country does. each country's independent history also plays a part in how populations within it are categorized. in a discussion with columbians I would expect many of our terms to not be used at all, just as many of their terms arent used here. |

The photo in the OP shows a man using a Halloween mask to depict President Obama riding in a fertilizer spreader. The man in the photo is engaging in political speech. Sure, it would have looked better if the man with the mask had a darker skin-tone, but the political statement would have been the same. |

MANY plays performed by actors in Black Face were actually decrying the plight of the black man through theater. Do I need to come up with a list of notable plays of the era against slavery using black faced actors? EVEN SOME FAMOUS BLACK ACTORS HAD TO WEAR BLACK FACE PAINT ON STAGE! So would I be a racist if I wore a tee shirt that said "Vote for me, YOU CAN TRUST ME!" wearing an Obama mask, and carrying a toy gun and a burgler mask like a bank robber I would be a racist?
