Topic: chris rock - racist? | |

I keep reading and waiting, reading and waiting....It seems the "n" word is so taboo we can't even say it during a friendly discussion...Why do we continue to give one word so much power..... I looked up some other "n" words: nOObz nOObie nOObish nympho numbnutz neo-nazi nerd nincompoop ninny nitchie nip How come we don't refer to these labels as the "n" word? maybe because they dont have horrific historical context attached to them,,, CONTEXT Are you sure about that? yep nazis were SELF Defined and contextually continued to be referred to as such,,, and those holding similar belief systems were later referred to with common terminology the other words are used to define types of BEHAVIOR, not specific to anyones biological/ancestral backgrounds,,, No, not all.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_slurs your n words were not in that list so I dont understand the relevance,,,,, do you recall a time when we had no noobies allowed policies in our laws? or nerd and non nerd water fountains and bathrooms? entirely different historical context,,,, Actually, two words on her list are ethnic slurs and on the link she provided. |

But it's ok for Rock to call white people white trash, rednecks, honkies, crackers (which is offensive just like the N- Word.) Really? These words are offensive? Does it offend you when Jeff Foxworthy makes "you might be a redneck" jokes? Does he use those words in his jokes? I personally find that there are more important things in life to be concerned about than what someone like Rock or whomever says. "celebrities" in general annoy the f**k out of me to begin with, so I really don't care what drivel oozes out of their botoxed lips. |

I agree, the only time I spend on such things is the time I spend reading about, hearing about, or posting in forums about them,, |

LOL I dont care for chris rock,, but he usually leaves them cracking up when he is putting other black folks down this time, I guess he offended some folks (other than blacks),,lol i never had a problem with CR... he has always seemed like a wannabe racist, like he just says things that he really doesn't believe just to make money... watch him in "dogma" and you will see what i'm talking about I agree with you that he knows just what to say to make money. He's a comedian. He makes people laugh and makes money. Dogma was very funny! I don't think that if Adam Sandler, Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White, Bill Engvall or Larry The Cable Guy gave interviews bashing black people and calling them the N word left and right they would be labeled as genious and smart comedians, they would be burned at the stake. they wouldnt get away with it because they cant be considered negros themself they do however, make a living using and embracing 'redneck' stereotypes,,,because they are poking fun of 'their own' happens quite a bit in comedy, Rock isnt alone in that,,,, But it's ok for Rock to call white people white trash, rednecks, honkies, crackers (which is offensive just like the N- Word.) I havent heard him call them those things anytime I have caught his act,, I have heard comedians like roseann barr or the blue comedy comedians use those terms though I have no comment on whether its 'ok',,its apparently what their fans pay to here, I am not their fan,,,, |

What would happen here if, that tabooed "n" word was typed out here on this very forum? Would it be as ok, embraced and free to type as the words cracker and honkie? Why aren't these terms taboo? Is it because it's become "acceptable" for whites to be openly, verbally abused? Why would that one word be censored and the "white" one who typed it banned permanently? Or would they be? Only the censors can answer that question. perhaps, the software is pre programmed to delete some offensive words and not all offensive words,, regardless of context, which software has a harder time recognizing than people do,,, plus cracker, is actually a word that has meanings having nothing to do with slur,, and whose MOST common use has nothing to do with a slur,, but with a food description as does whitey, which is rarely ever used so probably not included in most software |

Absolutely. If you don't like a certain comedian, don't listen to them or don't go see them. It's pretty simple.

It's not just what a comedian says. It's what progressives and permisseves embrace as acceptable and normal.
Racial bashing is not ok. Ex. I disapprove of Barry cuz he's a patalogical liar. Got nada to do with he's a mulatto. Or, Sharpton is a bigoted pig. Maybe if people like the last Sharpton, Eugene and Wright and theses terrorists didn't exist, there'd be less hate mongering and racism in the world. Rock and his type are able to keep racism and hate alive and growing. |

Chris Rock is a comedian. That's all. If you don't like him, don't support him. Easy enough, yes?
Of course Willing is trying to make it into more. I did ask earlier, but no one responded. Are the black panthers now comedians? Is that why they're being discussed in a thread about comedians? So you scream racism in this thread. What happens when someone is being racist and it isn't a comedian? Are you going to whine about them playing the "race card?" |

Attack the racism, swing, not the posters. |

By the way, it's sing, not swing. :) No one is making you watch/listen to Chris Rock, correct? Does it make you mad when Jeff Foxworthy makes fun of rednecks? |

He is is the mainstream. Nice try. He introduced the president for goodness sake. He hosted the Academy Awards. he is in the mainstream representing 'comedy', not a station or a show,,,, the show he is on, is called everybody hates chris, an don that show he makes no disparaging remarks,,, he is on news because he makes news he is on talk shows because he is a celebrity comedian he is in movies because he brings a FAN base with him that makes those movie producers good money He hosts the academy awards, because he has managed to be popular enough as a comedian to be a wanted host there are many examples in comedy, of comedians whose comments offend someone, but those comedians take that risk and their sponsors and employers decide if they are offensive enough to cost them profit,,,, money is the bottom line,,, when you are a radio COMMENTATOR, your sponsor and your employer have to decide whether you will be making them money or costing them money they felt Jimmy would cost them apparently,,,, unlike Howard Stern who has a long history of being very vulgar and offensive and still hosts X factor and does roles in movies and television shows too or the jewish girl who makes offensive remarks about almost every group but also hosted an awards show,, its because the AUDIENCE he brings follows him into those venues so, the short answer is, what is 'acceptable' is in most cases determined by what will not be costing someone profits,,,,,and will be continuing to actually ADD to profits instead,,, |
