the only thing I would add is adultery, but I consider that to be both abandonment and abuse

I think some people have the emotional stamina to 'settle' for less than they deserve, and others feel they have what they deserve,,,,,

You have to be more specific with your question and lay out the situation.

Leaving a relationship (I assume you are talking about a relationship here) does not make you any more or less real. If the situation is not working, becoming violent, or one party is not upholding its side of whatever agreement is in place, then by all means exiting is the best course of action. Sometimes staying is the most foolish thing anyone can do.

Women will sometimes stay when there is violence involved. That's so not cool. I've helped some like that. Never ever put up with being abused! (gets on her soapbox)
