Republican-funded Group Attacks Kerry's War Record
August 6, 2004
Updated: August 22, 2004
Ad features vets who claim Kerry "lied" to get Vietnam medals. But other witnesses disagree -- and so do Navy records.
Summary
A group funded by the biggest Republican campaign donor in Texas began running an attack ad Aug. 5 in which former Swift Boat veterans claim Kerry lied to get one of his two decorations for bravery and two of his three purple hearts.

But the veterans who accuse Kerry are contradicted by Kerry's former crewmen, and by Navy records.

One of the accusers says he was on another boat "a few yards" away during the incident which won Kerry the Bronze Star, but the former Army lieutenant whom Kerry plucked from the water that day backs Kerry's account. In an Aug. 10 opinion piece in the conservative Wall Street Journal, Rassmann (a Republican himself) wrote that the ad was "launched by people without decency" who are "lying" and "should hang their heads in shame."

And on Aug. 19, Navy records came to light also contradicting the accusers. One of the veterans who says Kerry wasn't under fire was himself awarded a Bronze Star for aiding others "in the face of enemy fire" during the same incident.

Look here, its a goverment web-site:

I know you are a vietnam veteran and would not try purposely to blemish anothers honorable service.
However, you have been duped by the lying SOB in office and his weasle like tactics.

The only lying SOB I have been duped by is John Kerry when he testified before congress under oath that everyone who served in Viet Nam was a murderer and a rapist. Also why do you not address the fact that Kerry actually managed to wound himself twice through his own stupidity by firing a grenade launcher at a target that was too close. Also first you say he got a silver star, then a bronze star, which was it. As for the Navy offical record, this is the same military that made a hero out of Jesica Lynch by falsifying records and statements and also said that pro football player was killed by hostile fire. One thing is for sure with the military, if you screw up bad enough they will make a hero out of you. They did it with Custer and they have been doing it ever since. If Kerry was so brave why did he opt to have his tour cut short because he got 3 little scratches two of them self inflicted. Address that please.

As for the Swift Boat Captains being one person I wonder why the main stream media never picked up on that since the swift boat captains dogged their darling boy pretty good. Gee you would have thought they would have been all over that like buzzards on a road kill.

Thats not what happened is why!
He still carries shrapnel in his thigh from a wound recieved when an RPG round hit his boat.
One wound was recieved from a mine in the water exploding near his boat.
He admits the first wound was just a small cut, but it was also recieved from an attack on his boat from an RPG round.
He did recieve a silver and a bronze star. The guy he rescued from the water Rassmann recommended him for a silver star, but the Navy gave him the bronze instead.
Why do you keep addressing statements that have already been proved as lies by the contradictions of the men giving them, the testimony of the man he saved and men directly on his boat, and the actual Navy records?
Ill give you this, you are a die-hard Bushie!!!

Rassmann wrote a vivid account of the rescue in the Wall Street Journal that contradicts the Kerry accusers. Rassmann said that after the first explosion that disabled PCF-3:

Rassmann: Machine-gun fire erupted from both banks of the river and a second explosion followed moments later. The second blast blew me off John's swift boat, PCF-94, throwing me into the river. Fearing that the other boats would run me over, I swam to the bottom of the river and stayed there as long as I could hold my breath.

When I surfaced, all the swift boats had left, and I was alone taking fire from both banks. To avoid the incoming fire I repeatedly swam under water as long as I could hold my breath, attempting to make it to the north bank of the river. I thought I would die right there. The odds were against me avoiding the incoming fire and, even if I made it out of the river, I thought I thought I'd be captured and executed. Kerry must have seen me in the water and directed his driver, Del Sandusky, to turn the boat around. Kerry's boat ran up to me in the water, bow on, and I was able to climb up a cargo net to the lip of the deck. But, because I was nearly upside down, I couldn't make it over the edge of the deck. This left me hanging out in the open, a perfect target. John, already wounded by the explosion that threw me off his boat, came out onto the bow, exposing himself to the fire directed at us from the jungle, and pulled me aboard.

Rassmann said he recommended Kerry for the Silver Star for that action, and learned only later that the Bronze Star had been awarded instead. "To this day I still believe he deserved the Silver Star for his courage," he wrote. Rassmann described himself as a retired lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "I am a Republican, and for more than 30 years I have largely voted for Republicans," Rassmann said. But he said Kerry "will be a great commander in chief."

The man that funded the lies is Bob R. Perry

The source of the Swift Boat group's money wasn't known when it first surfaced, but a report filed July 15 with the Internal Revenue Services now shows its initial funding came mainly from a Houston home builder, Bob R. Perry, who has also given millions to the Republican party and Republican candidates, mostly in Texas, including President Bush and Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay, whose district is near Houston

Isnt DeLay the man that had all the campaign contribution stuff brought on him and lost his seat! YEP!!!!

A Texas grand jury indicted House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) yesterday on a charge of criminally conspiring with two political associates to inject illegal corporate contributions into 2002 state elections that helped the Republican Party reorder the congressional map in Texas and cement its control of the House in Washington.

You believe crooks????

if the swift boat captains was really only one guy you still haven't answered why the main stream media did not pick up on that. Funny how you carefully avoid that subject. Also the posts there had actual names of people who served in the same unit at the same time as Kerry. If their names were used fradulently why did they not speak out? Perhaps one person did finance the web site, but there was a place on that website asking for donations to keep it rumming. Why do you not address Kerry's lies in front of Congress or his lies when he said he threw his medals at the Whitehouse, then said he threw somenone elses medals and then they weren' medals at all they were just the ribbons. He tells lie after lie and then you expect me to believe him when he claims to be a hero and a bunch of the people who served with him at the same time say other things. Please also address how he managed to wound himself twice and the fact that he chickened out and took an early release from Viet Nam because of his 3 wounds when two were self inflicted and all 3 were barely more than scratches.

The web-site is a completely unbiased site, (profit free).
It tells both sides of the arguement, and shows the contradictions to those, "swift boat veterans" affadavits, and statements.

I read it, I made up my mind from viewing both sides of the story. I promise reading it wont burn your eyes out or attack your conservative beliefs. So Help Me Dubya!!laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Oh,
I wont defend Kerry's actions after he came home.
He admits doing it, changed his story a couple times, and it is documented on film.
A lot of people in that generation did things, and I would not condone, nor would I condemn their actions.
Those were hard times to grow up in. Thank you for your service, but at least read the site before you condemn another veterans record.
All my DI and platoon sgts were Veitnam Vets. I have read many a citation for silver stars, bronze stars, and other medals for valor and bravery. I read Kerry's, and if I start doubting his, I would have to question every other one Ive read. I cant do that over the flimsy statements made and paid for by a political opponet. Esp,,,a world reknown, (yes world) liar!

Ok back to topic.

Liberalism means freedom to me. Protecting the basic personal freedoms that this country was founded on. Freedom of speech being the basic foundation. Even when I don't like or agree with what is said.

Yep, that's what being a liberal means to me. Freedom of speech.
