I'm making a new website, which will be an online community for staying clean and sober. It will be a place where people can come and discuss living a drug free lifestyle, support one another in staying clean and sober, etc.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please let me know.

I have been going AA meetings lately to support a friend. It has inspired me to create the new website, it will be similar to the general AA concept, but it will be more focused on living a healthier life without drugs and alcohol and less about spirituality.

My aunt and cousin are also active in AA, and I see them at some of the meetings, it helps.

My site will not focus on religion, spirituality, morals, ethics, or anything like that. Its focus will be more about living a healthier lifestyle.

My goal is to support those who are not comfortable with AA, but still want help. Unlike AA, I believe one can live a clean and sober life with or without AA, they just need the will to do so, and having support doesn't hurt.

Those who are pro - AA are welcome as well, but I want to make it clear that my site is not an AA site

I think it is great that you are being selective. I am started something similiar locally. The selectivity is in recovery as we have these controversities between addicts, alcoholics, al-anon, and open and closed meetings. To me the main thing is recovery. It will be like this reading meeting where as long as it has something to do with recovery it will be cool. Some people have offered some recovery poems and readings that have helped them.

I've just got one question...why do you think you're qualified to open a support group? Just asking, because some of my family goes to AA and ALANON , and the wrong advice, even if it's well meaning can cause problems. I'm involved with Kiaros and we have to be very careful of what we say to the people that come to our meetings.

simple, you don't give advice, but you share your Experience Strength and Hope!
What it Used to be like, what happened, and what it is like now!
Can't go wrong that way!

It's not professional counseling or anything like that. It's just an online community for those who wish to live a clean and sober lifestyle.

Yes i think that's a really good idea . It will especially be good for the ones who are too intimidated to get help. The type who are too scared of seeing a doctor.

I encourage seeking professional help.

It is more for those who do not wish to be a part of AA and realize that AA is not the only way to stay clean and sober.

All are welcome though. It's simply a place for those who wish to live an addiction free life.

Sounds like a great idea and would offer true anonymity for users...just be clear in saying that it is not a counselling service and maybe some links to counselling and/or AA sites

I may put links. I'm kinda debating on that issue right now.

Think about it please because you'd be offering a service to a vulnerable people and there would be a temptation for people to offer advice and/or referrals to Organisations that may not be on the level.

It's still a good idea.

Yeah, that's what I want to avoid.

I already have a zero-tolerance spam policy, no links are allowed on the site at all. Maybe I'll add a rule about the advice and such though. I do have a disclaimer on the site stating that it's not intended as a source for professional counseling and such.

I don't want to do links for it, because I have other sites and do not have time to go through and check to make sure the links are legit and what not. Then again, it would be helpful for users to find helpful information and professional help. IDK, maybe I'll try to make time for a links area.

Controversy... Alcoholic/Addict = Dog, German shepard.

Any difference is really propagated by making one addiction illegal, and the other heavily taxed and legal. I'm well past seeing either condition as illegal, but rather government sponsored degradation of humanity and profitting from the criminalization of an illness and misery. See also, Afghanistan for Opium, Iran/Contra, the war on drugs, prohibition, ad quite a bit of nausia. Addiction = slavery.
