Anybody watching the doomsday shows? What do you think of them? Anybody "preppin"? I've been into preparedness since y2k.

What is a "doomsday" show?

I would think after the Y2K flop you would have found something more productive to do.

Where I worked, the Y2K effect was that dates on our reports printed out as 1900 instead of 2000 for a month or so.

Oh! The horror of it all!!!

The show covers how people are preparing for their particular view of how things crash here. There are $16-20 quadrilliion dollars floating around the earth in derivatives. There isn't enough cash to remotely support them when some of them are called in. This country is broke. Congress can't even get a budget passed. Our financial system will collapse. Some people are worried about the solar flares. In the 1850s, solar flares took out the telegraph systems. Think what they would do to today's sensitive electronics. If you believe the Bible, the earth is 6,000 some years old. If you don't believe the Bible, it is a kazillion years old. For all those years excepting the last 100, or so, man has stored food to get through the winter. How much food you have?

The solar flares knocked out part of the grid in Canada. I am sure this has happened in other parts of the world too but most of the world is not nearly as developed as the US. I'm not sure how long it took to repair the high lines.

A financial collaspe is another matter. The unbacked US dollar will not stand for long. There will be a market crash and hyperinflation just like every known country in the past. Obama is making it happen much quicker.

Opinion: all the "hype" is the "Chicken Littles getting their 10 minutes of fame or a way to seperate people from some of their money.

I think we should learn to be more self sufficient, hunt and gather our food, generate our own energy, etc. as much as possible. We should prepare for disaster, but there's no need to get paranoid and let it consume your life, unless of course you're making money off it.

Yeah... it's like all those people who buy car insurance, health insurance, house insurance, income insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, etc... a bunch of paranoid freaks! lol... oh the sheeple ;)

I figure I'll just get the old gang together and start robbing all the people who are hoarding food.

No sure what shows you're speaking of, but I have seen websites, youtube videos and blogs about being prepared. I don't see the justification for doing anything more than keeping a week or two of staples and water. I live in Florida, the weather is simitropical so hurricanes, tornadoes and flooding is prevalent. If I stock great amounts of supplies and a flood happens, what good have I done for myself or anyone else? Underground bunkers would do me no good. Sink holes are common here. Plus a tidal wave could fill it with flood water. What if there's a fire and everything I've stocked up, goes up in smoke?

I think, you just have to depend on your instincts and intellect to get through. Some idea of what plants to eat, how to filter water, how to build a fire are good to know.

Try not to worry overmuch. If you believe in a higher power, I do, then cultivate that. Know that if something happens, if it is for you to get through it, you will.
