At first it wouldn't even come on. But after taking out the SATA data cord which was broke on one end the processor fan, power supply fan and both CD Roms work. The little green light on the motherboard comes on. I took one of my monitors away from my working computers and put four good sticks of RAM in the Gateway. So far the monitor doesn't work with the onboard video and I put a PCI-E video card but still the BIOS doesn't come up. So far my conclusion is that maybe the CPU might be bad. The guy who let me have it just said that it working and then nothing would work.

Did u get a new or bigger HDD . Its is known that once u do that it wont power up. It needs a bigger power supply.

I had the computer tech in town check it out. The capacitor between the PCIe and the first PCI was leaking on the motherboard. So he made me a deal on a Gateway 820 GM. The processor is the same with the hyperthreading 3.0 GB Pentium 4. I lost one USB port in front for the exchange of one Firewire port. But I don't have to mess with screws since it has the slide lock for mounting hard drives and CD and DVD Rom. It took him a while to find it. The power supply on the 820 GM has the on off button that makes it handy when exchanging parts. I figure lightening might have ran in on that old motherboard.

The tech at the computer repair shop told me once I went to wireless that I wouldn't want to go back to wired. He was sure right. I now have the Rosewill USB NIC in sync with the LINKsys router. I was surprised that it will connect with wired or not but since I moved into my new room I don't have to have cables to go through the walls or just laying on the floor.

i gotta disagree with that tech.
I mean, if all you do is casual browsing and such, then sure; but if you download torrents and large files frequently, I think you'll come to miss the speed of the wired connection - I did at least.

Wireless is great for laptops and mobile devices, but I still love wired connections. Docking station ftw

My boarder has a docking station in her room. I can see where the wired information makes sense. It was on a wired and wireless connection both in my old room. Wireless this morning is at 89% and yesterday at 100 was not connecting to the Internet. Her Dell Latitude is an old one but doing great. I was amazed when it was wired and wireless connection both that there wasn't any conflict. Yeah, that Tech has almost sold me swamp land before and usually comes out on the the better part of the deal on some of my upgrades. laugh But he lets me keep a running account. It is really a fair trade off because a lot of the older stuff he just lets me have for free. After a while he just runs out of room.laugh To be a real hoarder he would need a bigger place. laugh All the ham radio operators love him as I am sure he gives them some real good deals.
