Since we communicate via writing here, do you put much effort into the way you write? Do you try to make sure you write well enough for people to understand what you're saying? Do you think proper grammar is important? Do you try to spell correctly whenever possible?
This is not singling anyone out at all. I'm just curious as to how people feel about the way they and others write. Edited to add: I am talking about here in the forums. |

Yes, I do try. But, without emoticons, sometimes what I was saying in my head is perceived completely differently by the person reading it. Actually, even with emoticons it doesn't always work.

For personal use, I don't put much care into the way I write, as long as I get the main message accross. When it comes to business, I'm more careful.

I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I feel like I need to use more emoticons to get my point across to some people. But, then I feel like I shouldn't have to go over the top with the use of smilies to do so.

Unless you're conducting business in the forums.. I would certainly hope people put more effort into business writing! |

No effort whatsoever.
Pure stream-of-consciousness. Naturally grammatically correct. And, I do not judge those who cannot spell or punctuate. I figure they have other talents :-) |

i'm a million and one percent sure you've posted this before.
o.O good lord. i need to get off this site if threads are being repeated by the same individual. i type how i type, and that's that. i just blogged about this a second ago, but i have this weird fear of losing the ability to communicate via words. i don't really read anymore, so perhaps it stems from that. i don't know. it scares me a little when in my head i can't come up with the words to express myself, and instead i just hear *roar.* i'm regressing! D: |

Unless you're conducting business in the forums.. I would certainly hope people put more effort into business writing! I put care, not effort into my writing. It shows. Nobody understands a word I say most of the time. There seems to be a solid concensus that I am interesting, and that the lack of comprehension by others of my written words is not at all any setback to see how funny and interesting I am. My best friend in my past would be extremely proud of me to know that. RE: Spelling: Yes, I try to spell nicely, but it gets convoluted by my being unsure of the smelling of a whole lot of words, and also by my sometimes creating new words, or misspelling some to create and effect or mood. Like this "smelling" one up here. I have no business, so I can't do my share of satisfying your hopes, OP. |

Yes I always do. Writing properly says alot about a person. It may show their personality, their feelings about things or just who they are in general. I for one will delete a message from someone who does not take the time to re-read their message to me. Some have such terrible grammar you wonder if they were sleeping during their English classes. It may also show that the person sending you such messages are scammers. Their profile is perfect English but the actual message to you sounds like a child wrote it.

As we are operating in a wholly written medium here, I think it's important to try to do the best we can with our words, for the purpose of being understood. To that end, I'm something of a stickler for grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. |

I do try to watch what I write as well as my spelling (good thing for spell check)....Normally will re-read what I write in order to not offend anyone and to get my point across. Does not alway happen...
As far as grammer if it is so bad I can not read it then I will skip it... As long as I can understand the point they are trying to get across then it is all good. I don't ever comment to those with spelling issues and tell them to get spell check... I mess up just like everyone else does when it comes to spelling and putting all the periods where they go ect.... So what I'm not writing a book just interacting with others... |
