why is it every time I say I am seeing someone or dating someone, everyone jumps to the conclusion that I have a steady boyfriend or am exclusive with one person? I have not committed to any one person yet people assume that every time I mention someone.

It takes a duration of time to get to that point where you are willing to commit to one person and one person only. You can't just date someone for a short period of time and know enough about them to go exclusive.

I dated my husband exclusively for 3 years before dating him but it was dating. I find so many people want to jump the gun straight to being exclusive or even worse engagement or marriage.

I enjoy my little life. I enjoy dating different people and learning different things.

Any thoughts on this?

Some people are needy , some are greedy and then there are the interesting people.

In my opinion I would say the people that are "jumping the gun" and don't understand your thoughts or feelings on the subject are obviously not meant for you and it's a good thing they didn't end up wasting your time. flowerforyou

I think Terri is talking about people on here having opinions of her and not the people she may be dating

That is correct. When I say I am seeing someone, people often and not all people obviously think I am in a serious committed relationships. Such things take time and getting to know a person. I don't believe in instantly committing to people.

well if your profile is honest that you are into casual dating so that men you meet realize you may be seeing other people - you are fine in the honesty dept.

as far as the rest....people jump to conclusions about all kinds of things....who knows? it may be that your friends from here just want to see you happy! and not everyone dates multiple people. and people tend to assume things from personal perspective so because THEY would consider themselves committed they may assume that about you....I doubt it's anything malicious tho

If it was me, I would spend more time on the relationship and less time concerning myself with what other people think.

I am under the impression you are dating..not exclusive. That is just by following your threads on the issue at hand.
Don't worry about it Terri.

dating means different things to different people

when I hear someone mention they are 'dating someone' I also figure it is their way of saying they are already involved or why would they mention it

I am mostly approached with 'are you single' which leaves the easier option of saying yes or no, without having to describe what state of 'singleness' I am in
