there is a big difference between teenage trends and an adult choice to be true to oneself

I was just giving an example.

I am a multifaceted person. The only person who could ever hope to know the whole of me would be my wife. I'm not unique, I think the same is true of everyone. flowerforyou

I agree - really I don't think anyone knows me that well - to be familiar with all of the facets of my personality - my sons would be th e closest in that capacity. I've never known a man to take the time to really get to know me. that includes my ex-husband of 17 years

and I think what makes us unique is those things that are atypical about us or a unique combination of qualities - but in many ways people share much that is alike, I agree

---------->I am a multifaceted person.<--------- This is me too.

I can always "be myself" in the moment. But sometimes I am different depending on my mood and my state of mind.

I am true to myself always. What that means is that I am sincere about what I think and feel in the moment.

I am seldom "fake" because I'm a terrible actor.

Why do you suppose we are so fake, even with complete strangers we see a need to hide who we really? Do you suppose it's a fear of rejection? We need to feel accepted? Why?

Of course, we're not all like this, I'm just saying for some people, in general.

I'm not like that..generally what you see is what you get. If you don't like it, walk away! happy flowerforyou

I have many different personalities. They come out at different times. None of them are fake.

I wouldn't worry about apologizing to the non humans. I mean they are not human anyway so why would it bother them. Self preservation would be why I would hide.

It's a part of socialization... it's something conditioned that can be hard to break. We're taught things like being ashamed of perceived flaws, etc.

I admit, I still have some acne issues and can get insecure about that. It can be difficult to be properly comfortable in your skin when you're concerned about how others perceive you. Unfortunately, on some level, most people do care what at least a few think. Friends, potential lovers, flings...

I am right there with you. I think we are all many "people". I always say I have MY versions of people. My best friend who I know her true feelings is not the same tough business woman other people know. When you date or marry a guy, the one who makes love to you and calls you "Baby" is not he same guy known to even his best friend or co-workers. My mother is not with me who she is with my father or even my sister or the strict by the rules DMV worker. Everyone plays many roles.

That is NOT what I am saying. I do not really play different rolls. People may try to cast me in a roll according to what they think of me, but I am always true to me, not to any roll.

I do not change when I am with different people. They might have a different impression of me (slightly) but I am pretty much the same, although I might be more relaxed with people I know well. If I change at all, it it because of my mood more than who I am with or what roll they might expect me to play.

We're all plastic on the outside.

We're plastic inside too!
The human body now consists of several ounces of plastic from seepage in the food industry.

I know it's off topic but this is pretty scary.

Well, I am not about to test how plastic I am by falling down a flight of stairs.
I feel nice and squishy still.
