Totage, are you talking about yourself? Why are you saying "we?"

I mean we as in humans.

Since I'm not fake, I can't really help you out there.

Well. that is easy...

sex sells....(I wish I had made that up)

It ain't no different if you went into Wal-Mart...we all go for the best packaging. (I will be stunned if you go for the crappiest packaging)

That's funny you say that. I have had guys lay claim to me two seconds after meeting me and call me "their woman", etc. and I say "This is not the supermarket, you can not just pick me up off the shelf and decide I what you want to take home". I tell guys "I am not an auction on eBay with only seconds to close. There is no Paypal. And there sure as heck is not express shipping and delivery".

Why do you suppose we are so fake, even with complete strangers we see a need to hide who we really? Do you suppose it's a fear of rejection? We need to feel accepted? Why?

Of course, we're not all like this, I'm just saying for some people, in general.

Honestley.....do you REALLY want everyone to know EVERY thing about you?

I would go snipe people over it.

I'm talking about people in general, why do people care about the thoughts and judgements of strangers who have no real influence on our lives?

People only know....what I allow them to know.
Just because someone is guarded with some things....does not make them fake.
I don't present anything unreal to people. But I don't present Everything about me either.

Humans are social creatures. We evolved to believe that being apart from the tribe was dangerous. People who fear judgements and pretend to be different are acting as nature dictates.

Good point, we are designed to be social.

well maybe that explains an unthinking proclivity but it doesn't account for the intelligence to think for oneself

I do think we are often socialize to care about conforming and need to make a conscience choice to not accept that carte blanche

I dont think people ever stop changing or that they are one dimensional. I am one way at work, another way with family and friends. I am one way in an online conversation, another way in real time. Thats just the nature of people to adapt to situations and environments.

There are those who intentially try to DECEIVE and I dont know why they do it. But I think often times we mistake someone being complex with being 'fake' when they make any changes or show anything that might be seen as inconsistency in their behaviors or words.

For me 'fake' is that person who pretends to feel one way about someone in the company of some, and then the total OPPOSITE in front of others. Like someone who is kind to their spouse when others are around and acts like they kiss the feet their spouse walks on,,, and then ignores them or bullies or abuses them behind closed doors.

These people are full of intentional and false AFFECT, and the kind that I consider 'fake'.

or someone who pretends to HATE someone in front of others, but secretly play and laugh with that person while having a giggle at those who think they hate them (ie. the fakeness of wrestling...lol)

Assuming that the theory of evolution is correct, then we might be. But there are problems with this. To assume that those who are always "themselves" are "evolved" is ignoring many possibilities, including that they received defective genes. To imagine that we are somehow evolving beyond one of our most successful survival adaptations is hard to accept.

Most people who are "themselves" fall into distinct categories. Every goth will tell you that he/she is just being themselves. But somehow their true self just happens to look like and act like every other goth on the planet.

IMO, what we are looking at is learned behavior to act freely around others. Society has blared a clarion call of "tolerance and diversity" and people have responded. I think society is evolving and humans are just trying to keep up.

there is a big difference between teenage trends and an adult choice to be true to oneself
