Is being realistic better than being optimistic?

You have to see reality and be optimistic about the outcome.

I always brace myself for the worst and hope for the best.

Optimistic is a good thing. But I think being TOO optimistic about something for TOO long, well when reality sets in, that can be quite a fall. So I guess you could say it's good to be realistically optimistic?

The pessimist says "My life is so horrible there's no way things could be worse." and the optomist says "Yes they can!"

I don't understand why you think you have to separate them.

I don't understand why you think you have to separate them. may be because iam always adviced to be either one of them. Iam a realistic person myself. |

I don't understand why you think you have to separate them. may be because iam always adviced to be either one of them. Iam a realistic person myself. Can a realist set goals and not be considered an optimist? Is it realistic to be persistent in the face of failure? Is it realistic to admit failure and give up or is it pessimistic? |

I don't feel the need to label myself.

No need for exclusivity. If the set of things you are hoping for is realistic, then being optimistic in those regards is still realistic.

I don't feel the need to label myself. Hm... if I did not label myself, I would never know which end goes in when I first put my pants on in the morning. |
