Can anyone explain the "redneck" hating of Jeff Gordon?? Lot of people say he's "queer", But it's really because he is better than the Earnhardts.
Personally I am soooo glad he is breaking all of #3's records and personal timetable stuff.

Look I'm glad there is so much passion here. But come on, already. Drivers are skilled professionals NOT athletes!!

This is an argument thay no one is going to win. Like Lakeman said, if ya don't like NASCAR, fine. Don't watch it. It gets a little monotonous to hear the same old "drivers aren't really athletes" and "it's boring to watch cars drive in circles" and "there is no skill involved". These are jabs from people who know nothing about NASCAR, know nothing about the drivers and crews, know nothing about the competition, know nothing about the personalities of the people in the sport, know nothing about the family atmosphere (you rarely hear about a NASCAR driver or crewman being up on drug charges or whatever), know nothing about how a driver looks and feels as he climbs out of his car exhausted, sweaty and dehidrated after 500 miles at Bristol, know nothing about the strategy and pit stops and fuel mileage and tire wear and heat/coolness of the day and track and how well the car is handling and the circumstances involved with wrecks and cautions and teammates and which drivers are more skilled at certain tracks and everything involved with how a complete race plays out. So, say what you want about a sport you know nothing about, because millions of people/fans disagree with you. Why? Because they know SOMETHING you don't know. You're same old arguments are tired and old. You've voiced them, now move on.......and go watch golf or something.

Maybe you should start your own thread (cricket) about how awesome NASCAR is then.

It is a very ignorant statement to say that those people who don't like it, or think it's stupid, are only saying that because they don't have any knowledge about NASCAR.

i dont think my statement is ignorant at all, BR77R. if you dont like the sport of NASCAR thats fine with me. but hearing the same reasons for not liking it (i.e. drivers are not athletes, driving in circles is boring) over and over and over again without any validation to your point tells me that you do not follow or even watch NASCAR and therefore, probably don't know much about it. if you do know about it, then any complaints that you have about the sport i'd hope to believe would be more detailed than the same old vague complaints mentioned above.

so you'd rather watch baseball? fine. don't those guys hit a ball with a stick and run in circles over and over and over again? you'd rather watch basketball? fine. don't those guys bounce a ball back and forth and back and forth and back and forth on a court shooting the ball into a hoop over and over again? you'd rather watch football? fine. don't those guys run back and forth...............blah blah blah, yawn. yawn to each his/her own i guess. all i'm saying is, there's more to NASCAR than driving in circles and going fast. just as there's more to baseball, basketball, and football than i mentioned above. you want to argue that NASCAR is boring and the drivers arent athletes? fine with me. just know a little more what you're arguing about before you start the debate.

to br77r About nascar not being athletes:
Got to this late but each race the drivers lose an average of 10lbs (piss, sweat) during a regular nascar event. The average person (exercise once in a blue moon) would get exhausted and pass out a 1/4 way through at most. You have to be physically stable to drive and stay focused. I used to race in circles I know.

About nascar:
Nascar is a team sport, 75% pit crew and chief 25% driver. Controlling the car at 150mph around a corner even if its the same corner over and over still takes skill. Lack of knowledge on a subject is your downfall.

About gordon:
Awesome driver, breaking records left and right, yes. Better than earnheardt sr. no, jr. yes. Sr no because if you watch all of his races, many teams involved there strategies around this driver. He is the single most infulential racer ever to race (that I watched).

k2 you have some good points. I think that the measuring stick between Jr. and Gordon will be a little more clear during next season when they are both in similar equipment. They are both top drivers. I do know first hand that 2 years ago at Martinsville...I was listening to Jr. on the scanner and he was complaining that the engine in his car was a piece of crap that would not keep up with Gordon down the straights. Tony Jr. came back at him and said "Gordon is coming out of the turns cleaner and getting straight faster which allows him to then put the power to the track quicker. Junior only said "That's a Roger!"
After the restart he was right on Gordon's bumper and stuck like glue. Each track and every turn is different as far as angles, surface and smoothness. These all have to be taken into account during set-up of the chassis. Tire pressures can win or lose a race. Just like they said above. It is a team sport. If ya don't like it...go watch kick ball. (sock her...lol)That should be a good boring sport for the non-technical that wants to see lots of running people doing nothing but kicking each other in the nuts!! BORING!! yawn yawn yawn yawn yawn yawn yawn yawn yawn

Those that say Nascar isn't a sport or that the drivers are not in good shape oughta head out to the Petty Experience and give it a "try".... lol

Yah, you'd be back here changing your tune with a ton of humility sprinkled on top.

Nascar is a sport, and I enjoy all the other motor sports as well.

My opinion and your welcome for it. lol
