Topic: Drinks on me | |

What's your thoughts on a man buying a woman a drink?
Is there a hidden message and agenda? I feel like I missed some code or something. I went out with a few friends tonight and encouraged a buddy to go over and offer to buy this 'lady' a drink. He had been admiring her and I was merely trying to help get him back in the game. She exploded, ranted and raved. I was mortified. Of course, he was pretty mortified too. Is buying someone, or accepting a drink taboo? |

to me it just mean someone is trying to get to know me. I've spent my fair share of times in a bar and I don't assume they "want something"
The woman overreacted if she blew up for no reason When someone buys me a drink, I usually buy the next round. Keeps things even |

it sounds like she's 51 cards short of a full deck buy ME a drink next time! I'm always up for a free shot of Jose!!! |

I'm probably out a line here but, back when...it was more accepted or maybe expected to have the cocktail waitress or barkeep present the drink or the offer to buy a round for the person of interest.

Granted this was only one 'lady's' reaction and I've been out of the bar scene for quite awhile.
I would not be offended if a man, or anyone, offered to buy me a drink - unless they were drooling, drunk and staring at my body parts maybe. I wouldn't think it meant I owed them anything either. That lady must have had some bad experiences. Of course, now my buddy has sworn off approaching ANYone, poor guy! He just mumbled "man, I didn't say I wanted you to have my babies" as he walked away from her. Then gave me a GREAT IDEA! shout from across the room. |

why are you trying to get me drunk?

If a guy wants to get me a drink then that's no problem as long as I go to the bar with him. If someone I don't know just walks up to me with a drink well then I'll be polite but I won't drink it (ya never know what might be in it). And if I accept a drink then I'll get the next one. Sounds like your friend had a lucky escape from that woman! |

Yeah, I pretty much didn't hear the end of it especially after my compelling reasoning for doing it.... "what can it hurt? what's the best that can happen? she'll say yes and you'll have a nice conversation! what's the worst that can happen? she'll say no thank you and you'll come sit back down with us!" I didn't quite nail the "worst scenario" apparently. |

It was just an innocent offer.
Three females were sitting at the bar, looking around, being friendly - not like they were in a corner booth in a private conversation. It may have been a better idea to ask the server to ask her...but still come on! The whole place was staring at him/her with her reaction. He'll never be the same! It did become the joke of the night - to everyone in there, not just us. He didn't live it down. |

If done it with no expectations whatsoever. If she's with friends I'll buy a round for them all just so she doesn't feel too uncomfortable. It is a way of breaking the ice for some people but obviously not for everyone. At least I know who to buy a drink for in here!

Back in the day is was a way to ..as stated, break the ice.
I don't know what it means these days. |
