Why don't or why do you believe in god?

It's not something I can explain. Nor do I even care to try. God is very real to me.

Nope, don't believe in God either. I think its just blind faith based on a book (bible) written by men.

Those of us who believe in God do not necessarily view the Bible as factual. And there are many different gods people follow not based on the Bible at all.

I believe in God because he has touched my heart. I opened the possibility and God revealed himself to me. He has been with me ever since, comforting me in every step I take in this world. Allowing me to know no matter what this world may throw at me, he will be there and I will be able to overcome any obsticle that may come my way.

I find that interesting as the religous folks I know here do follow the bible and believe in it word for word. Can I ask what your thoughts personally on the bible are? I am just curious. My thoughts are that it is much like a rule book or a guide on how to live life. To me that would mean you don't follow it to the letter but as I said just a guide. However; that is just how I look at it. JMO

Why don't or why do you believe in god?

the same reason I believe in the ancestors who have left behind little physical evidence besides a record here or there

those who have taught me about them have credibility and trustworthiness and the details they share make sense,,,,to me

This is true.
I would add, I'm very spiritual, 'god' is very real to me....
I am not a Christian.

And with good reason.

What I believe is open to interpretation, but it works for me and makes my life no less fulfilling by following it.

Actually I made a thread a while back titled "Is the Bible a reliable moral guide?" I had read a really interesting article that I pretty much agreed with. The answer was "no" in mine and the author's opinion. Nor was it ever intended to be.

The author states that the Bible is more about the mystery and meaning of of life and the relationship between people and God. There's a lot more to the article, but I found that most interesting.

Most people who believe the Bible word for word have trouble with passages like this one...

"Jeremiah 8:7-9
New International Version (NIV)

7 Even the stork in the sky
knows her appointed seasons,
and the dove, the swift and the thrush
observe the time of their migration.
But my people do not know
the requirements of the LORD.

8 “‘How can you say, “We are wise,
for we have the law of the LORD,”
when actually the lying pen of the scribes
has handled it falsely?
9 The wise will be put to shame;
they will be dismayed and trapped.
Since they have rejected the word of the LORD,
what kind of wisdom do they have?"

Why don't or why do you believe in god?

I neither believe nor disbelieve in most of the specific concepts of god that I've heard.

So have u seen your mind?
Have u seen air?
do u hv any doubt about their existence?

When I was younger, the questions related to the possible existence of a deity seemed to me to be the most important questions facing a living being.

Today, I'm just tired of hearing ignorant arguments.

The 'mind' suffers the same problem that 'god' does, in that (without further explanation) its poorly defined.

But air? The evidence (or lack thereof) for a deity is unrelated to the evidence we have for 'air'. The transparency of air is only relevant to idiots.

Why worry about those who don't believe in god, or have seen no proof of god? I have absolutely no problem with those who do believe in god. People think in different ways. We're not all the same.

Isn't it strange that despite of being away from each other almost all human societies have on thing in common"belief in god.

Should god not existed, how would have they all believed in god?

Its not at all strange, to me. Actually, while it seems to me that some form of animism was arrived at independently by many primitive societies, yet the notion of deity, and later monotheism, may have been invented just a few times and largely propagated from one society to another.

I had to read it over a couple times myself to make any sense of it and I am still not sure I understood it.

It's a verse that is in the Bible that says the scribes lied about what were and were not "God's laws".

I thought the point was that this quote (without context!) -

‘How can you say, “We are wise,
for we have the law of the LORD,”
when actually the lying pen of the scribes
has handled it falsely?

- raises the question of whether we can trust the Bible to actually be the word of God.

I'm not familiar with this passage from the Bible, have no context, and don't interpret it in any particular way.

I have a pantheistic view of God so I see God everywhere and
feel the presence of God in all the beauty in life.

I find this view of God very unifying and satisfying and
completely compatible with all monotheistic religions.

I agree with this. Which is nice since slowhand and I agree on little else.

Heres what i think, the only verses god fearing jesus freaks ever use are the "moral and decent ones" they seem to believe that w/o the bible OR the belief of a myth(god) they have no purpose.Take the bible away from them and circle all the killing their god did and how slavery was fine, killing children were fine cause they disobeyed their parents. But yet this is the same book they find morals and values in.Keep your hypocrital God zombie jesus s h i t away from me please. You question why some don't believe, read your book you worship and you tell me why?Christianity and Judaism is a copy cat monotheist myth that was taking from the polytheist stories of the greek, sumerian and babylonian mythology..Islam ain't nothing but Jew hating bulls h i t also.God does not exist know why ?It's simple you can't prove something exist if it doesn't exist.

PS this isn't a rant i typed this calmly.
