Topic: Fact vs Opinion | |

it actually tickles me when people post on politics that they know the 'truth' , like what happens in Israel or the middle east or what this leader did or didnt do,,, when they have hardly ever witnessed any of it themself and just swear that their source is the one that must be the accurate one,,,lol And it actually tickles me when other people say "screw historical facts" when informed of said facts simply because it is not what they want to hear. These people refuse to read and absorb links proving their (lack of) knowledge wrong, they get their news from non-descript blogs, pretend their computers are not able to open links pointing them to facts, and basically show their true colours. They even quote others of not knowing anything about a situation when the people informing them of the truth acutally spend time in that country. So really it just makes them look idiotic. |

Just a little test of Fact or Opinion
Early in the morning of April 9, 1948, commandos of the Irgun (headed by Menachem Begin) and the Stern Gang attacked Deir Yassin, a village with about 750 Palestinian residents. The village lay outside of the area to be assigned by the United Nations to the Jewish State; it had a peaceful reputation. But it was located on high ground in the corridor between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Deir Yassin was slated for occupation under Plan Dalet and the mainstream Jewish defense force, the Haganah, authorized the irregular terrorist forces of the Irgun and the Stern Gang to perform the takeover. In all over 100 men, women, and children were systematically murdered. Fifty-three orphaned children were literally dumped along the wall of the Old City, where they were found by Miss Hind Husseini and brought behind the American Colony Hotel to her home, which was to become the Dar El-Tifl El-Arabi orphanage. |

The Internet is a great source of information. That is why anyone who spends some time researching can become somewhat of an expert on a subject.
But that said, just because something is on a website, blog, or something else does not mean it is the gospel truth. You have to research the people who put out the information and you have to cross reference the information with more than a single source or opinion. Then, it it always good to speak to experts personally, and speak to witnesses. |

Yes Folks this is from the "BLOG"
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/deir_yassin.html There's a depth and richness of this relationship that is expressed every day.... we have an enduring bond of values, interests, beginning with security and the way that we share both information and other things to help the common defense of our common interests... — Benjamin Netanyahu The American people and the Israeli people share a faith in the future, a belief that democracies can shape their own destiny and that opportunities should be available to all. Throughout its own extraordinary history, Israel has given life to that promise. — Barack Obama The AMERICAN-ISRAELI COOPERATIVE ENTERPRISE (AICE) was established in 1993 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3), nonpartisan organization to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship by emphasizing the fundamentals of the alliance — the values our nations share. |

Another test of Fact or Opinion
Part of the struggle for self-determination by Palestinians has been to tell the truth about Palestinians as victims of Zionism. For too long their history has been denied, and this denial has only served to further oppress and deliberately dehumanize Palestinians in Israel, inside the occupied territories, and outside in their diaspora. Some progress has been made. Westerners now realize that Palestinians, as a people, do exist. And they have come to acknowledge that during the creation of the state of Israel, thousands of Palestinians were killed and over 700,000 were driven or frightened from their homes and lands on which they had lived for centuries. |

I think this has a few facts and alot of personal conclusions and assessments as well. But I never bought that anyone or anyplace is all good or all bad, so I never bought into a blameless Israel. I have read personal accounts on both sides , but I am not a witness myself to say for sure what is truth and what is not. My common sense just says that there is probably truth on both sides, just as much as there is exaggeration. |

My common sense just says that there is probably truth on both sides, just as much as there is exaggeration. Not to mention facts are often used and manipulated to promote a bias. Such as use of the word "murder" in this clip. A strong word that invokes a sense of injustice. However, we are only given a limited amount of facts by the clip. Therefore, we cannot put this event in proper perspective to tell whether there is justification for the bias. From the bias in this piece, one might conclude that Israeli Jews were the ones who began the violence between Israel and the Palestinians. There are no facts presented to prove this inference however. This is why logic tests not only the truth of statements, but also the soundness of arguments. If it fails either test, the argument is proven false. So assuming Israelis started the violence based on this clip would be a false conclusion based on unsound logic given the information provided. |

Take it to the politics threads guys. If you don't...I will. I am polish Jew.....I don't wanna hear about how fact vs opinion boils down to a f'n religion or political party. I agree. I'm getting tired of the insanity of people not agreeing to disagree. Now, the principles of logic can be used to discern opinion from truth or even possible truth. Logic is what exposes bullsh!t. But if someone cannot accept the validity of logical principles, then argumentation is pointless. I personally believe that is where some of these political discussions are heading. And that means it's time to give it up. |
|

I don't see it as giving up Lynx.
In my opinion everyone got the right to do thier thing. Fact or opinion really doesn't matter when the people you are talking to already have thier mind made up. |
