What do you think about a movement to abolish all categories we use to distinguish people from one another?

no more homosexual or heterosexual, as we dont really know if we should label this according to feelings or actions,,,,

no more female or male, as biological parts are apparently no longer an indicator of gender so much as how one 'feels' is,,,

no more races, as we are all just human

no more grown and child, as we all need to just learn from each other and not be given any authority over anyone but ourself,,,,

,,,do I have any followers for the human absolutionist movement?

interesting idea - have you ever noticed in movies about aliens the more "evolved " species either all look pretty much alike - like Close Encounters, or they are a light or a spirit as in Starman

so apparently this evolution does consist of a being becoming their substance rather than their appearance

I think we could try your idea but as humans have a need to categorize, other categories would simply evolve from the "absolutionist rubble" to define us

Nay. I am against this.

lol, I wouldnt want to be like the aliens

for all their intelligence, they rarely come across as having much 'happiness' or humanity,,,

I guess thats the point though,,,,humans FEEL and VALUE in a different way than all others

Im not sure Id want to totally give that up just to reach advanced 'intelligence'

beautiful idea... but it would never happen... its simply not in our nature...

we could all seem identical, and some would still find a way to make themselves feel superior to others...

well I was looking at it more in terms of species evolution to get to the point of no categories that u were suggesting

I wasn't suggesting we become aliens, but I think it is an interesting parallel

If we could be more like local tribe of Na'vi in Avatar, then I'm in:)

thats the issue I have, my solution is mostly sarcasm

I think the two extremes which are harming us are the one extreme that we are all absolutely the same and should be left to our own accords,,

and the other which must see every difference as either a sign of superiority or inferiority,,,

I think I mentioned this before. In 1989 when I started college there was actually a box that said COLOR. I laughed so hard. I turned over my Covergirl Compact and wrote Warm Beige 049 I believe it was. You have to understand I have one of the most forward thinking writers as a mother and that in 1989 that was even a box amused the hell out of me. I felt like they must have ran out of applications and went in the storage room and pulled out some from 1962.

Political correctness is going to be the down fall of this country. A rose by any other name is still a rose.

Hell no!

It is very convenient to know who is cool and who is a douche.

Societal catagories are prerquisite to personal standards of excellance.

this would be a good place to start

I think race is a significant part of our identity in the history of the world

as much as gender is a significant part of our identity in nature

I dont wish people to truly start ignoring either thing,

I just wish people didnt view those real differences as an indication of better or worse

Im an african american female, Im cool with each of those adjectives as a way to give a heads up of where I have 'come from' and where I am at

my daughters fahter is a caucasian british male, and he is cool with that

,,,we both respected the very different experiences in history which made it possible for each of us to get here and to still be here

its when that respect for those differences isnt there, but is replaced instead with supremacist or bigoted judgment about those differences that problems start

Hell no!

It is very convenient to know who is cool and who is a douche.

Societal catagories are prerquisite to personal standards of excellence.

... and the human race rose above the dumb animals by inventing and categorizing many, many, many standards.

(Please, please, please, don't misspell "excellence" any more. You can misspell any word you please, except "excellence", "perfection", "Dog",(sp?) and "onomatopoeia". The joke is that this last one is dead easy to do, if you know a language which has phonetic writing, like German, French, Italian, Slavic lingos.)

You're right, Sweetestgirl. I also thought how the lower-ranking species all look the same, too, like bears, frogs, doves, etc.

Which made me conclude that we, humans, never mind our to us obvious individialities, must also look all the same to pigeons, wolves, cows, spiders, Neptunians and intelligent outer space creatures.

I can't actually prove this.

I think our educational system has already started working on that,,,,

haaaa,,,,but it kind of helps in picking out the good advice from the poor advice though,,,,,

Funny. Who's your mom? I like forward women (with all due respect to your old lady).

There was one forward woman I did not like, it was my godmother Lilly who played centre forward in the Kapuskasing Men's Ice Hockey team, the "Kapuskasingian Bonecrunchers", nobody knew it was her. Her Jersey said, "87 Grrrr." No announcer made a bone about it. "Grrrr is winding up, he shoots, he scores." "But Jesus saves", coz the Port Arthur team had a Paraguan goalie.
