I have found that AVG works as good if not better than ones you buy (AVG is a free download). If you must buy one I would go to best buy or walmart vs buying online

There is no antivirus protection that is much better than the next one, and there are a few *free* ones for personal home use. I recommend... Avast Free (my choice and it's what I run myself) AVG Free (used to be really good but got slow as they added features) That's just *my* opinion, but I've been working on computers for over 15 years |

I thought that you could only get it free for one time and Then you had to buy it. Thanks for your help.

I use Webroot, bought at Walmart.
They have a nice feature. It copies ALL YOUR FILES whenever you wish. So if you hooked it into the old computer, it would copy everything on it and transfer it to the new pc. (For me it is a theory still, they call it 'backup.') |

SOMETIMES one may pick up a baddy that another might not, but for the most part, the free ones like AVG and Avast aren't all that different than pay ones like Norton or McAfee. You just have to remember that no matter which one you use, it doesn't mean that your computer is untouchable, so you still have to be a LITTLE careful with what you're doing. Rusty's right about AVG Free slowing things down nowadays (REALLY SLOWING on mediocre machines), but you can shut off alot of the services that you really don't need to make performance losses a bit more manageable. |
