The Philippines is an archipelagic nation made up of 7,107 islands spanning 1,840 kilometers north to south.
The three main Philippine island groups are Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao. March to May is hot and dry. June to October is rainy, November to February is cool. Average temperatures: 78°F / 25°C to 90°F / 32°C; humidity is 77%. Two official languages --- Filipino and English. Filipino which is based on Tagalog, is the national language. English is also widely used and is the medium of instruction in higher education. Eight (8) major dialects spoken by majority of the Filipinos: Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon or Ilonggo, Bicol, Waray, Pampango, and Pangasinense. Filipino is that native language which is used nationally as the language of communication among ethnic groups. Like any living language, Filipino is in a process of development through loans from Philippine languages and non-native languages for various situations, among speakers of different social backgrounds, and for topics for conversation and scholarly discourse. There are about 76 to 78 major language groups, with more than 500 dialects. Some 80% of Filipinos are Catholic. About 15% are Moslem. The rest are made up of smaller Christian denominations and Buddhist. |

Already found out English is widespread. Do I need my passport? What is their standard of living? simple and happy life Is Manilla the only city they have to "party" in? not only in manila, but since manila is a capital of the philippines and beside manila is a big / huge city in the philippines, there are alots of different types of people all over the globe but anyway, if you want some dancing / night out / night life, in manila is a lots of lots to place u can do, makati, quezon city, ortigas, mandaluyong, there are plenty of night spot you will like it, u can choose, where ever you want. and also, there are many fine dining restaurant. i'm sure u like it, there are many foriegn people, visiting philippines, then they stay there for life, co'z they like it. co'z most filipino people are hospitality, friendly, nice. I hope you are not going there after a girlfriend you met on the internet. It is a huge trap. I know guys who have done it and it ends up badly. There are perfectly good Phillipino women in the US already. No need to import anybody.

A Filipino’s way of living is quite simple: contented and happy of whom they are. Being the only Catholic nation in Asia, most people are deeply religious. Filipinos are mostly hard-working and the values of education are instilled /passed on from generations. English is part of national curriculum, so the majority of people can read, write and communicate in English. Modesty aside, our neighbouring countries normally come to the Philippines to: enroll in various courses, invest in businesses, settle for good and/or study English. Filipino’s are very hospitable, fun loving, industrious, loyal, respectful and friendly. You will surely enjoy your visit to the country, much more if you will know the people and our culture. You will see how Filipinos, materially do not possess much, but are still very happy. As I always say to my friends, no matter what part of the planet we may be, there will always be good and bad apples. |

My brother goes to Manilla once in a while for work and says it's a LOT better than when he has to go to Mumbai (you don't even want to know what it's like there....). Apparantly they have a slight sense of humor in the Philippines. He took this pic at the Hard Rock Cafe in Makati...
Marlboros are also dirt cheap there and come in nifty little packs of 10! He brought me back a carton the last time he was there and I kept some of the empties just to screw with drunk/stoned people..... |

I lived there when I was younger for a couple of years. We lived on base though. We had house girls that lived with us and taught us a bit of their culture and way of life. I can't think of a single bad memory from living there....well except being in a typhoon (ironically named Typhoon Kim....my name lol) The people were great and lots to learn. We had a little Nepa hut in our back yard as a play house. We used to love walking to the Sari-sari store with Delia and Marietta. My sister and I learned Tinikling, which is a dance with bamboo poles. Of course I was only in kindergarten so my Tinikling skills weren't that great lol. From what I remember...it was a different culture from what I was used to. I'm not good with change but this was a comfortable culture to be around.
I agree with w0m4n's description about the people and way of life. Every place has their bads but over all the people are hard working and welcoming. |

I hope you are not going there after a girlfriend you met on the internet. It is a huge trap. I know guys who have done it and it ends up badly. There are perfectly good Phillipino women in the US already. No need to import anybody. Well, they choose the wrong ones. There are more successful stories than the bad ones. You are tending to label them as bad. My best friend is married to a Flipina and they are successful in their marriage and they have a son. They have been married since 2005. Seven years now. I am convicted that Filipinas are nice and makes great wives for many men. Perhaps those guys you know went to a bar in the Phillippines and married them. Bars are not the place to find your mate. Or the sex tourist spots (brothels, adult theaters, etc). Most are good ones when they are very faithful to God and attend churches. That is what I know about. I would marry a Filipina if I want to. Or when I want to. But I would also be an ex-pat to live there. I love tropical islands and tropical regions. I know there are also many women just wanted to get here. I had one pen pal (before the internet days) about 20 years ago and after a few months, she admitted she only wanted to come here so she can be with her family here in the States. So, yes, you will always will find a bad apple in a barrel full of apples everywhere! So, please do not label them all bad. Your statement sounded like everyone of them are bad. I met alot of them online in past 12 years and they are all wonderful women there but I did not marry one because of the cost is sky high compared to marrying a woman in your hometown. I am more of a type of guy prefer to marry someone whom I met in person than through online after my real bad experience with someone. Yes! She is an American living in CT, that is next state to my state and she stalked me for a year and half. I had to call the police! But did I stop looking for someone online? Just never know! So, leave as it is. I am sure that man rather to meet a nice Pinay in person rather than on the net. Smart move! I would do the same as he would! |
