I have read long lists of 'signs' that people are in love. From magazines to ezines to newspaper articles, everyone has a theory.
Some of them sound more like 'obsession' to me than being in love(like one which suggests being in love keeps you from being able to concentrate or work or think about anything but that person wherever you are) I think the difference between loving and being in love has to do more with how we view that persons happiness and health in relation to our own. loving , I Think, is when you place the health and happiness of another as equal to your own being IN LOVE, I think, is when you place the health and happiness of another ABOVE your own I dont necessarily think the latter is always healthy , but I do think it can be a very strong foundation for a healthy relationship, IF both partners feel it how would you differentiate loving someone from being IN LOVE with someone? |

Being in love is KNOWING you are respected and your health and happiness is secure in anothers heart.

Being in love is KNOWING you are respected and your health and happiness is secure in anothers heart. I like that perspective. |

I also think if you are much haapier with them in you life rather than without them that is love too.

Reminds me of the scene in the movie How Do You Know where the guy asks these other guys "How do you know when or if you are in love"? And one of his friends responds, "I know when I don't wear a condom with one girl, but do wear them with all the others". I mean....come on. THAT right there is just pure science and logic for ya.

Loving is simply more mild, then being in love :)

Lately, I am questioning if love can exist without friendship. I am aware of sex without friendship. Compatibility was where we could mutually coexist. I think that was answered in the movie, "Alien" with Sogourney Weaver when she asked the question, "Can we coexist"? I can remember coexisting with a codependent. Some of my early encounters with dating reminded me of that movie, "Encounters of the third kind." Forgive me but especially when the sex was good with that sound track when a successful climax was accomplished. It was like, "Oh, my God this must be intimacy." Encounters of the first kind were like infatuation. I did get hung up on that one question, "Will you still like me in the morning?" I mean how can someone answer that question before morning comes? I know for sure that I have been infatuated many more times than I have been 'in love'. Encounters of the second kind was like, "You are still here?" For me, Encounters of the fourth kind was when I fell in love with my friend and my friend fell in love with me.

My perspective would be that being in-love would consisits of the highten pheromone feeling that has a tendency to disolve after awhile. Loving someone consists of the AGAPE type of love (unconditional)love that will never dissapate after the honeymoon, fairytale, walking on cloud feeling is gone. Good and necessary question! |
