Topic: name calling why do it

why do some people have to reduce themselves to calling others names or try to insult the intelligence of another poster that that disagrees with what they are saying are they trying to make themselves look better by attempting to make the other appear less anything but does not this name calling and such reflect poorly on the perc rather than the accuser what do you think

Its especially amusing when you criticize a person's claims or actions, and they insist that you attacked them personally and respond with actual name calling.

boggles my mind. I was raised in a very open minded environment, so others opinions were always ok. You didn't have to agree, but everyones enititled to thier opinion. Guess if things got heated, we agreed to disagree and drop it. No need to get nasty, but sarcasim well that was a differnt story, LOL.

Humm all I can figure out is somehow it makes them feel as if they have put you down but in reality they have really just showed others there true self and its not very pretty either.

Personally I think it reflects poorly on both...Things can be said to get your point acrossed without having to resort to schoolyard tactics...If not then I suggest the people who feel the need to name call or put others down...ake a good look at themselves and try to remember if they are over the age of 18 they are ADULTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I THINK THEY DO IT JUST TO MAKE THEMSELVES LOOK BETTER I WAS WATCHING DR PHIL TODAY AND HES BEEN MARRIED FOR 30YRS NEVER CALLED HIS WIFE A B, AND YOU KNOW IM LIKE WOW IVE BEEN CALLED THAT A FEW TIMES BUT I THINK IT HAS TO DO WITH RESPECT AND ITS VERY RUDE

I have always beleived that when other make fun of or call names it is for one of two reasons. 1. to impress the friends they are with or 2. to make themselves "feel better" - i.e. low self-esteem!
