According to Leonard Pitts Jr., the tea party is racist ("The black self-loathing of Herman Cain," Oct. 16). If you're intrigued by Herman Cain(who hates the fact that he's black), you're a racist. If you disagree with President Barack Obama on a policy issue or you didn't vote for him (he's black, you know), you're a racist. If you admire Condoleezza Rice (who is too "white"),you're a racist because she would never condemn the racists who surrounded her.
These are the claims Mr. Pitts makes in his column about why he loathes Mr.Cain and why racists love him. If only Mr. Cain shared the liberal, self-serving view (it's kept liberals in power fordecades) that blacks in America would have no problems if it weren't forthe racists waiting to destroy their lives when they wake up each morning.
Perhaps Mr. Pitts thinks a separate but equal system would be best where blacks can act black and whites can act white. Apparently, Mr. Pitts believes there is a black way and a white way to act. One wonders does he believe these traits are genetic or are they a matter of choice, nature vs. nurture? If so, is it acceptable to choose black if I'm white or white if I'm black ?
Mr. Pitts claims the reason African-American joblessness is twice that of whites is due to racism. "The mass incarceration of young black men" is because of racism. What role do illegitimacy rates play in the joblessness in the black community? What does the lack of stable families with fathers in the home have to do with the incarceration rates of young black men? What about the problem of drug and alcohol addiction in the black community? What about the dysfunction and poor performance inschool which renders so many young black kids unprepared for higher education an therefore almost unemployable (see the documentary about Douglass High School on HBO)?
Perhaps the most outrageous of Mr. Pitts' views is that "many white conservatives" claim it is they, not blacks, who are the victims of bigotry. Surely,there are some whites who believe they are the victims of bigotry, but Mr.Pitts' response to them would be "cry me a river." The truth is most whites don't think they're victims, and a further truth is that most whites aren't victimizers. Like most blacks, they arejust trying to do their jobs, get through their day and get home to their families. Furthermore, most whites aren't responsiblefor the ills that plague the black community andaren't willing to accept that responsibility just because Mr. Pitts or someone else says they should.
Finally, Mr. Pitts claims African-Americans were"psychologically maimed by this country" and that certainly was true. Clearly, Mr. Pitts was, and apparently he has yet to exact his pound of flesh for it. One only hopes most Americans, black or white, don't share his bitter views.

too much hate and bigotry, on this I agree..we may be heading to a supremacist society if we dont get a handle on some of our policies and attitudes,,,
