also here a long time since my join date but I have deactivated several times for as little as a few weeks to more than a year one time

I will post frequently at times and then go for weeks posting maybe once or twice a day or not at all

still I am pretty much a regular overall

and not that happy about that - I did not join with the intention to stay hereflowerforyou

and really have been thinking that I wonder if online is going to work _ I know it works for some, but hasn't for me

I sometimes wonder if the rumors I read about the sites not wanting you to succeed because then their members leave is true

In my experience, this is more of an issue for the pay sites, who don't want to lose your $24.95 a month if/when you find somebody.

That would make sense to me. I doubt that's much of an issue here though. Just look at how many regulars are here and not single/looking. However, if this WAS a pay site, I'm sure the vast majority of them would be gone.

makes sense to me as well in that perspective

and when I say I'm not happy to be here - what I mean is that I did not intend to be here long term - but to find a partner & get on with life....I feel like my life is just this big holding pattern....anyway, now that I like so many in the forums I prolly would stay even after i found someone - it's being single that I am not happy about - not the site

When I was doing some research (last year) for the dating site book, I ran into some pay-site stories that would make most people think twice about even considering a pay site.

One site was famous for sending out bogus messages (from beautiful eligible females, heh heh) urging the male members to stick around and talk to them. It was alleged that the beautiful eligible females were actually site staff members (possibly male) whose job it was to pretend to be regular members and pretend to be interested in the guys on the site.

There were several sites with really bad reputations for not letting people leave -- in some cases, a member would request to have their account deleted, and the sites not only would ignore the request, but would keep on charging their credit cards for months afterwards.

The bottom line for pay sites is they get the majority of their revenues from paying members. So the retention of those paying members is their first priority, which directly contradicts the ostensible purpose of the site in the first place. So, if it comes down to a choice between making truckloads of money or helping some people find happiness, which do you suppose is going to triumph?

I've only tried one pay site ever, and that was for 3 months in early 2006. I will say that, of all the sites I ever tried, that was the one where I got the most correspondence -- I was contacted by 174 of their members, almost all of them local. I never sent out a first e-mail. I don't know how many of those were bogus members, if any -- I wasn't interested in meeting any of them, so I never really followed up.

And the site didn't give me any problems when I wanted to leave after three months, so I guess I got lucky that time.

I tried a paid site too for about 1-2 months - had no problems canceling but was experienced enough from the free sites to recognize that most contacts were bogus

funny at one point I actually thought mingle used paid ambassadors and asked a member here if he was a paid ambassador because he messaged all the time , but seemed to have no interest in anything else so it did occur to me that he might be a site ambassador TBH

oh and TBH - that would have been OK w/ me - a friend is a friend - I just wanted the truth - instead he blocked me....hmmmmmmmmm

Ive been on this sight since 07. Ive also tried other free sights, but never a paid sight. Of all of them mingle is my favorite . .I love the forems. The only thing I Dont like is that the majority of guys who do contact me are from other countries. . Maybe someday that will change.

Been on here since May of 2007 when it was called Just Say Hi. I have met wonderful friends from all over.

While I've never made any love connection on here or really met many men- I wouldn't give away the friends I've met for the world. There's not a better place than here for that.

No. I used to think there was. Now I'm convinced there is not.

I've never heard the term paid ambassadors before.

I message people here all the time that I'm not looking for anything else with other than friendship and chatting, so I can see why others do it as well.
