How do you approach complete strangers without seeming weird/off/etc? I mean, if you want it to go further than just hello?

Thats a good question. Sometimes I feel like an a$$ if I say something alternative.

observe them for a few minutes if possible. . .with out being obvious. Approach with confidance Smile say hi ask them an open ended question about something you observed. . . their phone. . . a book they have. .etc. or you could always use the old stand by . ."Im lost could you direct me to . . ." :)

I always talk to new people I don't know. Ask a question about the town or if they have a dog, about the dog, or even ask directions just to get things started. If they think you are weird , what have you got to lose?, you'll probably never see them again anyway!
