Glad you have a sense of humor, man. I was crabby and you had a right to blast me if you wanted. (me and my big mouth) The Ubuntu release week here once again. Version 11.04 is likely to become one of the most hotly debated topics on many Linux websites in the coming weeks - largely due to the controversial decision of shipping with a new default desktop. Also, this is a release with an unusual amount of last-minute changes and even package upgrades, which indicates that Ubuntu's latest and greatest is still suffering from nasty bugs, even this late in the release cycle. But let's not get ahead of ourselves too much. Before "Natty Narwhal" arrives here is Canonical's obligatory press release entitled "Latest Ubuntu offers businesses added cloud features and sleek new desktop interface": "Canonical today announced availability on April 28, 2011 of the Ubuntu 11.04 suite of products for businesses. Spanning corporate and developer desktops, servers and the leading open-source cloud implementation, Ubuntu 11.04 offers businesses of all sizes an open-source alternative. This release comes at a time of accelerating corporate adoption of Ubuntu and delivers a range of improvements specifically relevant to the corporate environment." For those who can't wait for the the release, the daily image is currently as close as it gets to the "gold" build. http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20110425#upcoming Its because of the line of work I am into. I deal with Alzheimer residents on a nightly basis. I have to remember that "normal" people who are rational look at things differently. And when I am with them for a lot of hours to get along with them I behave similar as they do. One moment I am being called a s.o.b. and the next moment they think I am the greatest thing since peanut butter. As part of being staff we have to tell each other that we are not crazy and as a general I try to encourage sanity there like you try to encourage sanity here. |

It took all day to download at my connection and then 4 separate attempts to get on. What a radical upgrade. But it looks like the first alpha of it.

mine isn't giving me the option to upgrade to it :(.

Saw someone else upgrade to Natty today. I don't like the desktop environment they chose. Unity looks like it might be good for a tablet, but I don't want it on my desktop.

It ain't Gnome. Its Unity. Now I get what all the fuss is about. What a disappointment.

Cowboy, I don't think you will like it. It is like a treasure hunt to find everything. Wasn't it Shakespeare who said, "Much to do about nothing."? Now I am really curious about this Funduntu. It is supposed to be a combination of Ubuntu and Fedora 14. I am used to opening multiple windows of the Internet so I can go back and forth between pages but that option isn't available. Even Microsoft will you do that with Internet Explorer. I don't know maybe I am just a Gnome addict and it doesn't help with Gnome 3 being out and not on Natty. To me that just sucks.

If you do a download then your Internet is tied up until the download ends. And why would anyone need a trashcan that big?

Looks like i'm gonna have to check this out as well..let's see what's all the buzz is.

Hello all, just want to inform you that Super OS 11.04 is being prepared and most of the work is already done, it should be released in the next 7 days.
Everything in Ubuntu 11.04 will be kept, including Unity, Dash, and all that. All behavior and appearance will remain like in Ubuntu. Besides the big changes introduced to Ubuntu, Super OS will have an improved local repository, with easy offline installation of drivers (nvidia, ati/amd, broadcom), which will now be even more useful, since many computers require additional drivers to make Unity work. I also hope to include and improved version of a program I have been working on… lets see… More news soon! http://hacktolive.org/blog/ |

mine isn't giving me the option to upgrade to it :(. I think that is why this new version of Ubuntu gives you the option to upgrade on the new Ubuntu with the CeeDee when you burn it. It is like a Microsoft Upgrade because I tried loading the !!.04 without 10.04 or 10.10 and it just wouldn't do it. in my opinion it was rushed. But can you blame them? I think some Service Packs would fix the problem. |

Wow, i am touched by your kindness. It must have been tough working at your job. I want to help people with alzheimers someday....I dibble dabbled in cytotechnology and biology in college, but i much to fickle to make a commitment to anything. Yikes. thanks for doing your job though. Thanks. I downloaded the latest Slackware for 2 days. It was a 4.2 GB download at 32/kbs/sec. Everything but the login worked. And that just means it might have been operator error on my part. At least it wasn't a bad burn. These latest 1.2 GB was worth it. Now I know why they have a Mepis lover's site. This SimplyMepis 11.0 is a really nice Os. Debian with everything I loved about Lenny plus better in my opinion. I mean its KDE but it is so clean and professional as a desktop. A really stable Os. I have to just have get used to Synaptic, again. I have tried to download Mepis before but it burned good this time. It was the midsum before and the Mepis site even said to wait a few days on new downloads. I noticed they made it where your burn would be slower for accuracy for the midsum. Really good documentation included for dummies like me. |
