Thank you for admitting that the ladies lie too...although I dont agree that women dont lie as often - they just dont get caught.

My father may be the exception to the rule, but I use him as a role-model because of his character, not because of some status quo. In all the years he was marries to my mother...guess who lied more often.

He didnt catch her all the time, and even when he did catch her...it was more important to him that she was happy anyway, which is why they are still together. She lied for all the reasons on that list, and probably a few that you didnt think of.

It is really easy to point the finger at a gender when you have been the victim of a "liar" (my word for player), but the fact of the matter is, the reason men get a bad rap for lying is because of "players". Female players typically go for gold, and male players go for sex...but they both have lies in their arsenal. I could just as easily say..."Why are women so materialistic?", but I wont because that is not always the case.

Everyone has valid points here. Having been the victim in a few relarionships where I was devastated by the lies, that eventually ALWAYS come floating back to the surface, I became a realist.

Both lie, for whatever reasons they think they have to to get a positive result. Some do not lie, while others can not help themselves. I have a real issue with liying, so I try not to ever liem which may have cost me some relationships, but them I figure that if they can't handle the truth, I'm better off without them.

Women are just better at it. They will stick to there lie longer then a man will. Are faster on their feet when it comes to lies and will go thru all the dramatics and have the man apologizing for something he didnt do, all the while she is displacing blame..

I seen it tonssss of times.. goes both ways. but I feel women are more deceitful.

LOL, I'm with you on that one, although my reasoning is a little different.

I'm a lazy guy, I had a great role-model who placed a high value on honesty, and I just decided that there was to much work for too little reward when it came to lying.

I mean, how do you keep track of all that deception

i'm always honest almost to the point of complete disregard for other's emotions. it's a quality that is detrimental to my romantic relationships ("do you love me?" "no..."; "does it feel good?" "not really"; "am i doing it right?" "here, do this instead"; "is my makeup ok?" "i prefer you without it"; "am i perfect for you?" "um..."). but it works wonders on friendships.

but the list of 5 reasons seems to explain why anyone lies about anything. not just men, and not just to people of the opposite sex.

Something I have learned when wielding honesty...it helps if you apply liberal amounts of diplomacy. Diplomacy is the art of telling somebody to go to hell, and getting them excited about the trip
