After completing my qualification, I was presented with the opportunity to study further. After considering the debt scenario sketched earlier, I decided it wasn't worth the debt to study something which held no interest for me, merely to say that I have a degree. The piece of paper means nothing!!!
A year or two later, I left the profession.

1. I would not have had the "financial" freedom to make that choice if I had opted to study further. (I would not start something and not finish it) and being a practical person to a degree, the financial debt would have held me captive.


2. I am not highly educated, YET I noticed that a number of people ( PLEASE NOTE: MEN & WOMEN) almost take a physical step back, when I tell them my qualification.
It's got to the point where I try not to mention it unless I am asked directly. It does seem to be a stumbling block for some people.
Personally, I admire someone who has wisdom and intelligence, but not even that moves me to treat them differently from other people.

I see many graduate student women concerned about finding a mate before finishing their degrees! Many believe having a master's or doctorate makes it more difficult to date.

I have never really sat and pondered this...so, what are your opinions?

This reminds me of an old joke. A scientist gets a centipede, tears out a leg, and says, "centipede, walk", and the centipede walks, and the scientist makes a note of that in his note book.

On day two he tears out another limb. He says to the hapless centipede, "centipede, walk!" and the centipede walks. The scientist makes another note.

And so on.

On day one hundred the scientist tears out the last leg of the centipede, and says, "centipede, walk!" and the poor creature does not budge.

The scientist makes a note: "If you tear out all the legs of a centipede, the centipede becomes deaf."

Same with the smart woman. If she is not likeable, or is not deemed marriable material for a reason which is completely alien or removed from her educational achievements, she, herself will explain, "ah, I'm just too educated for these guys." It is easier to say that than to admit to halitosis or to a full, bushy beard, or to being nine feet tall. (All the women I have dated who had a Ph.D. had one or more of these three things.)

I know lots of highly educated women who are married to men who barely finished high school. So I'd say no, they're not- either that or lots of women are desperate, either way.

Educated and smart are not always the same thing.
