Wux, the scientist pulling out the legs of the centipede was a man so your story does not relate. I know it was a man because a woman would not be so stupid to touch a centipede.

I suggest that a really smart woman will stay single on purpose.

Okie, dokie, I pick up the baton.

So...

I can't argue with you on this, coz I am obviously not a smart woman.

That reminds me, I've been meaning to ask you: have you always been single? (( II !!! BEWARE!!! THIN ICE!!! INFREQUENTLY USED MINEFIELD FOR NEXT SIXTY MILES!!! LAST EXIT BEFORE THE EXIT AFTER THIS!!! PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! BEAR TRAPS SET THAT ARE DANGEROUS TO HUMANS!!!)

---

That was A. B. is, that while your logic is to me infallable, since I can't pretend in all fairness to know how a woman thinks, I think there exists a much safer way for you to convince that the scientist was a male.

You see, while I can't argue with you on what women think, I can't be convinced LOGICALLY of how women think, either, smart women at that, since I have no way of replicating the experiment or observation that leads me to that knowledge. What you are trying to achieve is similar to proving to a man who has been born and has always been blind, that Picasso's Blue Period was acually yellow.

What I would have said, if I were you, to convince me that the scientist was a male, is that there is at least one third person singular pronoun, nominative case, which points to his gender, as his being male. That is more convincing to me, and equally as inarguable, but with convincing power, much unlike the earlier inarguable statement.

The fact that this was given in the text, visible to all and sundry, does NOT take away from your insightful explanation to me why what I had written points to the scientist being a male.

("Whew." He wipes his forehead, then looks around with an uncertain smile, and asks noone in particular, "did I win?")

(People: I fully realize I might have overplayed the sarcasm. My intention was not to be insulting, but, instead, to banter. I feel that my comeback was more scraping than bantering sarcasm. I apologize. But I can't re-write it, coz my craziness medication is wearing out, as I take my pills in the morn', and I haven't had a cup of coffee either in a few hours, and therefore rude and unwarranted sarcasm is setting in. I know this, and I ask you for your forgiveness. I know I am bad, and yet can't change my behaviour. Please don't flag me or flagellate me.)

The question was not if men liked smart women. Of course they do. But they also like to think that they are smarter that the woman of their choosing. (Whether they are or not.) So, yes, I think that if they were convinced that a woman was smarter than them, they may be intimidated. BUT that will not prevent the egotistical male from giving it a shot.
But he also has to be pretty brave or pretty stupid. Not sure which.

I speak as a woman with experience who has learned from her mistakes. A person who does not learn from their mistakes is not smart. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes more than one mistake to learn something. If I had been smarter I would have stuck to my guns and never gotten married. However, I was married twice. Now, a dumb woman might try it again. I am now wiser than I once was.

"Smart" I guess is a relative term.

Why the scientists was probably a male.

1. Most scientists are male.
2. Most women scientists are not that interested in bugs.
3. Most women are not sadistic enough to pull off the legs of a bugs one by one.
4. There is less than a 50% chance that it was a woman. I estimate the chances of that are about 10% at the very highest.

If I liked the Texas heat more I could totally be happy running a tractor all day :)

I am a scientist that works with bugs (ticks actually), cows, blood & other biological specimens and was assigned to help teach a poultry lab last year because I could handle the sacrificing of embryos without getting sick...guess I'm a rare one :)

You work with clock bugs?

Clock bug: 1. (chronitinum chronos lupratantus): A bug whose mating call is "tick... tock... tick... tock... 2. A weird dog who likes to hump the wristwatches of houseguests, not their legs.

I see many graduate student women concerned about finding a mate before finishing their degrees! Many believe having a master's or doctorate makes it more difficult to date.

I have never really sat and pondered this...so, what are your opinions?

my first thoughts are that this would attract more serious men rather than the players, but what the heck do I really know? LOL

i'm intimidated by nobody, especially not intimidated by education. i know a number of highly educated people who i consider to be dumber than a box of rocks.

I would guess it depends on where the guy is in life.

I know before I felt confident in where I was headed in life I was intimidated by educated women. Only because I felt I would not be able to provide the life they would want.

But today, I find the more educated and more intelligent she is the more attracted I am to her. She can make more than me and she can be more intelligent. I love a good debate.

nice doggy jr...my Dad use to dye his black pitty's face to cover up the white hairs, but since Dad passes Mom doesn't do it & he looks so old now! LOL I wanted said dog so bad & the ex hubby refused to compromise with me on keeping him & my Dad took him so I wouldn't have to sell him to someone I didn't know :)

I know a butt load of over educated idiots as well! The horse folk are my favorite...One I know is an aerospace engineer who's horses run all over him because he is too afraid that disciplining them will make them mad at him! I just getting stepped on & run over are better alternatives...WTH?

Not at all. I prefer to have a woman near, at, or above my intelligence so that we can have intelligent conversations. Now, on the other hand, they will look at me, see that i don't have money, a job, or a car and say "he's a loser". lol.

10Brainn226,

So how would you define a winner? I mean, if you want to have money, a job or a car why haven't you got those things?

A person living in New York or a big city with parking issues, may not need or want a car. A person who works for himself may not need a job.

But you gotta have some green to do anything.

My ex-wife is a nurse. My career is in electronics. We have intelligence in differing areas. Did she have more intelligence then me: no. Did I have more than her: no. I respected her intellectual capacity but was never intimidated by it.

Why do women think that men are intimidated by a woman with brains? The only time it becomes an issue is if she has an ego to match her intellect.
