Way to make your bad situation worse! I can't imagine breaking into someone's home to steal a handful of shampoo and a towel.

it was absolutely stupid to go in someone elses home to shower, I will be eager to hear the follow up of what happened,,,,prior to that decision
frustrated frustrated frustrated The follow up to that IS the situation!!!!!!!!

GOOD GRIEF PEOPLEfrustrated frustrated frustrated

HE broke the law trespassing WE AGREE
HE was CAUGHT BY THE OWNER BREAKING THE LAW WE AGREE

FROM THAT POINT , there were STILL DECISIONS to be made

He could have taken the chance that the man would feel THREATENED(with him wet and naked whoa ) and cause him bodily harm or death

OR

he could remain in the bathroom with the door locked and got on the phone with the police, an action that both TURNS HIMSELF IN, and keeps the situation from escalating

a misdemeanor didnt need to become a death, and this mans thinking, AFTER committing the misdemeanor, kept it from becoming one

No. You are not getting it.

If you break into my house, you are a threat to my family's safety and I will shoot you. Then ask questions after.

What about the hundreds of people every year that are killed when they interupt a home robbery?

Should we assume that the person breaking into my home will be civil and call the police on themselves???

Being naïve about a situation like this will more than likely get a home owner killed.

yes, IM not talking about hundreds though

just this one
upon finding a stranger in his home the homeowner CONFRONTED him, which I hope hundreds of OTHER people might have the sense not to do, especially if the man is in the SHOWER and NUDE at the time, it makes more sense and its a safer route for the HOMEOWNER to return to wherever they were OUTSIDE the home and call the police

I dont quite find a comparison between a man confronting someone to ask them what they are doing in their home

and a man who is actually IN FEAR of their life.
Oh my God....are you kidding me? Yea....I come home and find some strange dude in my house taking a shower. Oh God....what am I gonna' do? Cater to him? Should I bring him soap on a rope? Should I say "O.K. Dude. Take yr time. Sorry to disturb yr SHOWER, man..... Can I fix you something to eat. Are you comfy?......?"

The story did not say anything about the homeowner confronting him.....he was locked in the bathroom....and he called the police because he was afraid the homeowner MIGHT have a weapon.

The homeowner was outside the bathroom when he, himself (homeowner) called to report the home invasion. I can almost GUARANTEE you that the homeowner was also afraid for his life.

'Accompanied by two German shepherds, the homeowner asked Chapek what he was doing in the house'

IF Im afraid and have a retreat, thats what Im gonna do

but other people will FIGHT and some will even KILL

thank goodness that didnt happen in this case = GOOD ENDING

But the guy was still inside the bathroom....when the homeowner asked, he didn't break the door down and sic the dogs on him.

And by "weapon" I really think the guy was referring to a gun or a knife not his dogs....or the intruder would have said to the police....'The guy has his DOGS out there and I am afraid THEY will attack me."

Either way, the guy was a moron for breaking into someone's home to take a shower and is lucky he didn't get what he deserved....to get shot.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

HE didnt walk away. The police arrested him as they should.

When I had violaters in my home I DID NOT CONFRONT THEM, I stayed where I was(because I had no exit). My husband chased them and THEY RAN. And, at that moment, I actually felt MUCH MORE RELIEVED than I would have if we had had to have a physical confrontation and take the CHANCE one of us may be injured or dead, I would have felt that same way if they retreated on their own (or locked themself in a room while I called police)

In this case, BOTH did the right thing calling the police and preventing a misdemeanor offense from turning into an injury or a death.

to the first,,,,

breaking and entering

n. 1) the criminal act of entering a residence or other enclosed property through the slightest amount of force (even pushing open a door), without authorization. If there is intent to commit a crime, this is burglary. If there is no such intent, the breaking and entering alone is probably at least illegal trespass, which is a misdemeanor crime.

taking a shower is not a crime, it will have to be proven there was an intent to commit a crime for B and E to be charged, the article only mentions the lesser charge (misdemeanor) of Criminal Trespass

to the second...

at that moment, IM not concerned with what he might do in the FUTURE as much as what he is doing THEN, and I will be happy if he leaves my home first(with or without help from police)with no physical harm to anyone,,,
