I would greatly appreciate some input here from all Religions..
For me what I have been taught is it is up to God to judge when it is time to go..
now If you arent Christian I would also like your point of view on this as well..
I do admit I have knowingly killed bees before and spiders however they are not pets.. I do not know if this makes it right.
ohh and wild mice as well..
my question what about your pet? what are your views on this? and under what circumstances would it be if you put your pet to sleep?.. I try not to sin.. im not perfect though.. and i guess this is an important issue to me.. and at this point i am so confused!! please help? input please? thank you so much!!

in that instance its not about religion but rather about quality of life...would you rather a household pet suffer a difficult end or go quietly without pain...in more severe instances suppose you were in a war zone and saw someone with injuries you knew would only end in death...but it would take time and they were begging you to end their suffering would you force them to die in slow pain and agony or would you allow them a swifter end?

I hate to put a pet to sleep. Even though we have been conditioned to believe that if they are in pain and can't be helped that the sensible thing to do is to put them down. I have had it done but I had the sense that it was wrong in some way. He had gone blind, had stopped eating, was bumping into walls etc. He was my dad's dog, and he lived outside, had a doghouse and had to stay tied. I felt so bad for him.

What could I have done otherwise? Well, I could have taken him into my house, watched over him constantly, made sure he ate etc. But I did not have the time to be personal nurse maid to a dog, and I had other pets, and other chores. That said, he was put down for convenience with the thought that he would soon die anyway.

I had another dog before that, he had thyroid problems, and he also would have seizures. I got medicine for him but it didn't help much. He kept getting sick. The meds were not working. He was dieing. I could not put him down. I just let him die in his own time. A week before he actually died, he was just like a walking zombie. The light was gone from his eyes, his personality was non existent. He just kept trying to wander off and crawl in a hole and die but he was kept in the house. He would not die in the house. I tied him up one day outside, and left him alone for two hours and he died when I was not there. He would not die when I was there with him.

Pets will linger longer when you cling to them. I think people do that too. I prefer to let them live until they die rather than put them down, but sometimes that is too much of a burden. I had a cat die in my presence and she let out a painful cry at death. So did the dog that I had put down. I think it might be painful to die sometimes. Or maybe it is a cry of relief.

Killing other people I would say is wrong, although humans kill each other all the time in war and call it justified.

Killing anything without reason is a cold thing to do.

I will kill flies and roaches if they are invading my home.

Sometimes I feel bad about killing roaches because they have been around for longer than humans. They move their feelers back and forth as if they are somewhat intelligent. But a nest of roaches is not a good thing as they carry disease to humans.

Instead, now I have a plug-in device that discourages insects from making their home in my house.

I really hate killing mice. They are cute little warm blooded creatures. But when they move into your house.. you have little choice except to live with them if you don't get rid of them. I have not tried the plug-in device for my mom's house where I had to kill some mice.

I will get one this year.

my answer is this.. if it were a person that would be murder.. so no i would not do that...also i would like to add to this.. we all have beared pains in our life that we have survived through.. and for this situation i would seek medical help for that person as fast as possible with the hopes of them healing.. and bearing no more pain from that incident..

in my view, we are given dominion over the animals and plants and insects, so we should have a level of 'caring' towards them

however, there is also a food chain which makes all those a food source of some sort and destined to live rather short lives one way or the other,,,,,so it comes down to a decision between what is healthy for us and what is fair to them

bugs and mice carry quite a few germs and nasty things that can be a risk to our own health and so I dont feel it is sinful to kill them, as long as it isnt involving torture, it is pretty much their destiny to die and be eaten,,,or used by the earth,,

jeannie. so i wonder would you of changed your mind on the first pet if you could change it now? my thing is this as well.. i try to live my life in doing things i will not regret in the future, i have to say i have really done good about this in the last few yrs.. but not intentionally have i done things i regret at all... the things i did regret i have made amends with.<that werent intentional> i do want to make better choices the rest of my life.. and this is about my dog whom does have a disease.. cushings disease.. i do fear this as well , i think she hides her pain..and like you say.. i do think she is holding on for me.. she is horribly pot bellied, gassy, most all the time lost looking, lathargic, falls down due to her 5 lb weight loss in 6 months..getting really bald, back legs shake.. my mom said to me when i told her i dont know if she is in pain.... when she falls getting in the car or going up the steps<rarely but does> she just gets paralyzed for about 15 seconds then gets up... my mom said she thinks maybe cause she is waiting for the pain to subside?

i did forget flies too!! and mosquitos stuff of that sort.. i did feel a lil bad though about the mouse in my house yrs ago..i could not take the mouse out of the trap even , i threw it out the back door.. well when the person came to take care of that for me arrived lol the whole mouse trap was gone! i found it about a week later in the garden.. no mouse to be seen! i guess i fed a cat.. im just not sure i can deal with my dog... i mean putting her to sleep dont know if it is right..
i once hit a squirrel with my car.. and cause the car in front of me did and it did fast circles.. i could not avoid hitting it.. i cried for days as i had felt my wheels go over it... i do think though it would of been in a heck of a lot of pain!! it was a nightmare to me i cried for days about it..

It is a difficult thing to answer. I had not had an extremely close bond or taken responsibility for my dad's dog that I had put down. My dad and the dog were no longer companions because my dad did not get outside and that dog was an outside dog.

Had it been my dog, and a close companion bond between us, I may have done something different if I was able to do so.

A lot depends on what you and the dog can benefit from it. My other dog that had seizures was my dog and lived inside with me a lot. When he had a seizure, I would get down on the floor and hold him and try to comfort him. I didn't know if it made much difference for him.

But one day, I stepped on something on the floor and fell down and I was screaming in pain on the floor. That dog (Toto) came over to me and laid across me as I had done to him during his seizures and held onto me as if to comfort me as I had done for him. It was then that I knew that he had appreciated what I had done for him and was returning the favor. It was so sweet.

My sister had a small dog for 16 years. He had diabetes and she had to get up every morning and give him insulin shots. She also had to buy him special and expensive food. Most people would have put a dog like that down, but she was very emotionally attached and she had him for many years taking care of him and giving him shots. When he finally got to old, I think she put him down to end his pain but even then it was hard for her.

I think it has a lot to do with how emotionally attached you are to the animal whether you should do it. If keeping him alive is painful for him and you both, and very inconvenient or impractical you might consider putting him down.

But, if you would feel better taking care of him, with all the vet bills and care and extending his life as long as possible and if you can in some way make his life better with your care and your love, then you may want to do that. I think there are lessons to be learned from our pets and lots of love is exchanged.

If you are wondering if pets have souls, I believe they have an oversoul and that their experience and life returns to that soul when they die. I believe that the oversoul watches over all of its animals.

Don't make your choice by what other people tell you, even me. You have to listen to your heart.

What you are seeing is probably a dream the dog is having.

The seizures my dog had were like epilepsy. He could feel it coming and he would begin pacing the floor very nervous. Then he would fall down and just shake. After a while it would end and he would be normal again.

Also, when a dog seems sad and come to you whining for sympathy he is probably trying to tell you that he is in pain. He should be taken to the vet to find out why he is in pain.

Toto used to do that to me all the time. My current dog did that when I first got her. After I had her spade, her pain went away. She is a new dog now. The vet said that her female organs were in very bad shape from her last litter of puppies. She had eight puppies before I got her and it almost killed her. They were fathered by a larger dog.

She is a very happy dog today, and has a male dog her same size as her companion. They love each other and are always kissing and playing. Both are neutered / spayed.

my dog has never whined.. but sleeping.. she is in a deep sleep when this occurs and i talk to her and pet her to wake her up.. till she stops.. though she is sad a lot these days.. doesnt whine though just looks at me from afar.. or sometimes when i cry she just gives me the same look when i am next to her holding and petting her.. when that occurs she gets stiff and only moves her eyes.. have had numerous trips to the vet the last few months she has been 3 times and one to come in about a week.. so they can draw more blood and tell me that she is no better..<from the meds she is on> and yes i already know the answer.. but will do it anyway..

Although I don't believe in a deity and I don't buy into what I am going to tell you, OP, here it goes . . .

God will use you as the instrument of his "time." If a pet is suffering and you decide to euthanize it, you are merely doing what god planned for you to do.

Look at it this way--if god is truly in control, then acting in goodwill and ceasing suffering will not be against that plan.

Of course it is--so are all the platitudes that religions give. However, many seem to be solaced by such aphorisms, eh?

By the way, saying
Sometimes I feel bad about killing roaches because they have been around for longer than humans.

is a load of crap, as well.

a clue to the statement is the person saying it doesnt believe it, its hardly going to be refuted when others disagree because the one who posts it does as well,,,,,,odd

its a very difficult decision and a personal one buttons, the suffering of life , the hope for improvement, or the peace of death,,,,,its one of those choices that it sucks to have to make

I hope you can do what brings peace to your heart,,,

Not at all. I hate roaches, but I sense they are somewhat intelligent.
I have no explanation for my occasional "bad" feeling when I squish one. I squish them anyway. Yuck.
